Description of Work

Provide academic instruction for students who are deaf and hard of hearing in their primary mode of communication within a residential education setting.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Individual and small group instruction in academic areas such as reading math science etc. as well as any non-academic areas if necessary which may be addressed by the IEP for students K-12 depending on placement at Supervisors discretion. Effective instruction requires becoming knowledgeable about and implementing assigned curricula implementation of daily-prepared lessons utilization of acquired and accumulated materials resources and manipulatives as well as assessing and documenting students progress and performance.

NOTE: Lesson plans and/or assessment documentation will be supplied for review by supervisor upon request.

Perform related activities such as: planning instructional activities; preparing IEPs attending to individual problems relating to student progress performance or behavior; preparing report cards; supervising and instructing teaching assistants; gathering and /or preparing instructional materials; supervising student teachers and/or observers from various colleges; participating in school related activities; attending committee meetings and inservice workshops; planning and implementing field trips; administering formal and informal test/assessments.

Communicate with other programs (residential student support etc.) on & off campus. Serve as liaison between the residential and academic staff between academic staff and parents between academic staff and local educational agencies etc. and serve as resource person for other proctoring compiling submitting any and all state mandated tests portfolios & inventories. State policies/procedures for testing are to be upheld at all times.

Other Position Characteristics:This position has daily contact with a number of staff members campus-wide as well as the general public. The following list is a known list of duties it is not meant to be comprehensive:

Daily contact with supervisor concerning duties to be performedContact office concerning daily bus duty or Friday bus dutyDaily student contact (giving out passes getting students to appointments getting information from students etc.)

Disseminating information on daily/weekly/monthly reports

Completion of confidential information to other agencies determining (with guidance when uncertain) what may and may not be released

Receiving compiling filing and disseminating information from other on and off campus service providers pertaining to middle school students

Assisting the supervisor in verifying and updating the campus inventory as it pertains to the middle schoolAccuracy Required in Work:Accuracy is required in following areas understanding effectively communicating and implementing the goals and objectives of the program and curriculum (state or alternate); ensuring IEP goals/objectives are implemented and documented appropriately.
