We want back-end developers for our Group Chief Information Office
HSBCs business capabilities in trade and receivables financing liquidity and cash management capital financing and investment banking payments and credit and lending for corporate and institutional clients covering over 50 key globallocations.

What your days will look like:

• Youllwork in a small team-Usually 46 engineers (backend frontend QA DevOps). Mostly co-located in the same squad sometimes collaborating remotely across regions and time zones.

• Youlldo hands-on coding-Building andmaintainingJava microservices and backend APIs (REST/gRPC/GraphQL) writing clean code with strong unit/integration test coverage and using AI coding assistants to speed up delivery without compromising quality.

• Youllliaise with the business-Partnering with Product Owners and stakeholders to shape requirements clarify SLAs/non-functional needs (performance resilience RTO) and provide technical input during grooming and planning.

• Youllsupport code in production-Taking ownership of services you buildparticipatingin on-call incidentresponseand root-cause analysis then implementing fixes and long-term improvements.

• Youllproactively troubleshoot-Monitoring performanceresilienceand scalability; improving observability (logging metrics tracing) and alerting to spot issues early and reduce customer impact.

• Youllhelp us improve-Strengthening engineering best practices (code reviews security documentation design patterns) improving CI/CD and deployment automation and coaching junior engineers on coding and operational practices when needed.

The skillsyoullneed to succeed

You know backend engineering: Java APIs microservices and data

• Youvedesigned and deliveredmicroservicesusing modern Java frameworks.

• You knowHTTP APIsinside out (REST and/orgRPC/GraphQL) includingAPI contract design and versioning.

You build cloud-native services that run reliably

• Youvebuilt and operated services onKubernetesand understand cloud-native patterns.

• Youve worked with public cloud platforms likeCopilot Azure or GCP(deployments configuration managed services).

You test like you mean it

• You writeunit and integration testsandmaintainhealthy automated test coverage.

You can ship software through CI/CD

• Youvecontributed toCI/CD pipelines(Jenkins/GitHub build tooling) anddeployment automation

You can support production and handle incidents

• Youvedone production support including on-call incidentresponseand root-cause analysis.

• You know observability: logging metricstracingand alerting and how to use them to troubleshoot quickly.
