Job Summary

Job Description – Field Office Accountant: Work Location- Gambia

Job Purpose

The Field Office Accountant is responsible for maintaining accounting books and records of the field office and preparing financial statements reports and final accounts in accordance with the accounting standards approved by the client and the host country. The role also includes overseeing all accounting and financial activities submitting periodic financial reports preparing the estimated budget in coordination with the Field Office Manager and relevant officials ensuring compliance with approved financial policies systems and procedures and monitoring the annual plan and budget to verify proper implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare the estimated budget in coordination with the Field Office Manager monitor its implementation and submit periodic budget follow-up reports.
  • Record accounting transactions and ensure their accurate reflection in financial statements and reports verifying proper classification and recording in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the accounting standards approved by the client and the host country.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and submit bank statements indicating disbursement request numbers recorded in the system to the direct supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with financial terms related to contracts and purchases upon receipt of goods or services.
  • Safeguard office assets and investments ensure accurate recording in accounting books in accordance with approved policies and regularly update the fixed assets register.
  • Periodically verify the accuracy of project balances guarantees obligations surpluses or deficits and submit regular reports accordingly.
  • Prepare financial statements financial reports and final accounts.
  • Participate as a member of procurement committees.
  • Participate as a member of asset and property inventory committees.
  • Contribute to the annual performance evaluation of the Assistant Accountant.
  • Perform all other accounting duties assigned by the direct supervisor that fall within the scope of the job.
  • Report any issues related to the office’s fixed assets.
  • Ensure that all financial transactions comply with applicable financial and tax laws and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of financial operations to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to ensure their understanding of and adherence to financial governance policies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Finance or Financial Management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of preparing annual and detailed budgets for programs and activities.
  • Experience in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting treatments related to financial statement items.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
