Job Summary

Lafayette College is seeking an exceptional teacher/scholar with expertise in Engineering and Society for a full-time visiting position for the 2026-2027 academic year in the Engineering Studies Program. The Program awards a Bachelor of Arts degree in Engineering that explores engineering through multidisciplinary lenses to integrate technical and non-technical perspectives.

Lafayette College is a small private undergraduate-only institution located in the Lehigh Valley in eastern Pennsylvania 70 miles from both New York City and Philadelphia. Lafayette emphasizes excellent education in engineering and the liberal arts placing a strong emphasis on student-faculty interaction in the classroom in research and in extracurricular programming while seeking to advance its strengths in creative humanistic and inclusive engineering education. The candidates teaching scholarly interests and experience in Engineering and Society will contribute to a program with current faculty expertise in sustainable technologies STS engineering policy gender studies and engineering economics and management. Applicants who have scholarly expertise in any of those areas are encouraged to apply with preference given to applicants whose work addresses engineering economics and management and/or research in engineering education. The successful candidate will teach sections of the Engineering Divisions core introductory courses an upper-level elective in Engineering Studies and an interdisciplinary engineering and society elective of their choosing. Consistent with the interdisciplinary nature of the Engineering Studies program students from all academic divisions are likely to enroll in these classes. Prior teaching experience and training in engineering are preferable. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester.

The Engineering Studies program and the Engineering Division provide professional development opportunities through class observations and mentorship. Lafayette College also supports visiting faculty members through the Hanson Center for Inclusive STEM Education and a year-long orientation and development program organized by the Center for the Integration of Teaching Learning and Scholarship. Additionally visiting faculty members receive funding for travel to one professional conference and for undergraduate research assistants.



Candidates should have or be near completion of a PhD in a related field by the position start date (July 2026).
