Job Summary

Overview and Responsibilities

The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of manual and technical work specifically related to the repair and maintenance of Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) facilities. This position reports to the Director of Facilities or Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance (e.g. plumbing mechanical HVAC electrical grounds and construction activities) for all College facilities.
  • Construct new and/ormodify existing facilities via finish remodels.
  • Install and maintain stud walls (including finishing and painting) ceiling tile and grid cove base and carpet.
  • Repair install modify renovate or remove equipment furniture or materials owned or operated by CVTC.
  • Install and maintain building door hardware such as closers hinges locks electric strikes overhead doors automatic door openers etc.
  • Advanced knowledge in plumbing repair and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC plumbing electrical and general maintenance skills as related to commercial/industrial buildings.
  • Perform general maintenance work including but not limited to snow removal (sweeping and shoveling sidewalks and plowing parking lots) repairing roofs groundskeeping etc.
  • Assist with maintenance of other building and program equipment as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret building drawings and blueprints.
  • Provide set-up assistance and support for program and campus events.
  • Provide coverage during normal shift for custodial work as needed (e.g. clean areas arrange furniture etc.).
  • Respond to customer requests in a timely and professional manner (e.g. clean spills unlock doors deliver supplies set-up rooms emergency response etc.).

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of commercial/industrial maintenance functions in the areas of carpentry electrical HVAC/plumbing and general maintenance.
  • Advanced skill in operation and maintenance of tools and equipment related to facility maintenance.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions and adapt to changing work environments and priorities.
  • Ability to coordinate office moves including furniture requirements assembly and physical move of office contents and work with requestors to assure needs are met.
  • Excellent customer services skills and the ability to create a pleasant learning and working environment for students and staff.
  • Aptitude for accepting job responsibilities excellent safety standards and performing duties without direct supervision.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as ¾-ton trucks w/ plows wheel loaders 1-ton dump trucks forklifts sidewalk snow removal equipment lawncare equipment
  • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness personal accountability ethical behavior quality standards and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices acquiring relevant information using technology and other resources appropriately and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly concisely and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience.
  • Ability to recognize personal biases adapt to different cultural situations and demonstrate a commitment to respectful interactions with persons of various ethnic cultural socio-economic or educational backgrounds.
  • Basic skills with technology including software programs for communication including but not limited to Office 365 Suite.
  • Ability to be available for evening and weekend hours as well as an on-call rotation.

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma in a post-secondary building trades program.
  • Journeyworker credential in a related trade (e.g. plumbing electrician construction etc.) and two years of occupational experience as a journeyworker preferred.
  • If not a journeyworker minimum of five years of occupational experience within in a related trade required.
