Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.The employee in this position will serve as the Senior Assistant Resident Engineer in the Resident Engineers Office located in Columbus County NC. The employee in this position is responsible for minor and/or major construction projects supervising employees and preparing and evaluating the performance of employees. The employee in this position must be proficient at plan reading highway engineering calculations and the survey instruments necessary to supervise the stake-out of line grade for roadways and structures. Duties of the position include preparation of monthly estimates final estimates and written and oral communication with contractors inspection personnel utility companies and the public to ensure compliance with contract plans standards and specifications. This employee will also evaluate data collected by field personnel and prepare technical letters and reports review contract plans specifications and materials testing results. The employee in this position requires minimal supervision from the Resident Engineer. Selected candidate in this position will be expected to operate a state vehicle.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC18 - $63927 - $111871
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Knowledge of contract administration to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the departments specifications standard drawings and policies.
Experience interpreting construction plans provisions specifications policies procedures and regulations.
Experience in performing engineering analysis on complex contract administration issues and the timely approval/denial of these issues through supplemental agreements and claims.
Experience in supervising subordinate employees to include supervision of Construction Engineering Inspection personnel to meet department goals.
Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining engineering concepts to various customer groups.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.EEO Statement
