What We are Looking For
The Applied Performance Specialist advances the performance goals of the Athletics Applied Performance unit in cooperation with the goals and objectives of the Athletics Department. This role centers on collecting analyzing and reporting performance data using cutting-edge sport science technologies. The specialist offers data-driven feedback to optimize student-athlete performance and collaborates with the Director of Applied Performance on analytical projects that benefit the performance health and wellness of the Football program. Key responsibilities include maintaining performance-monitoring equipment supporting session setup and breakdown and integrating sport science into training strategies thereby driving innovation and excellence across the broader department.
A bachelors degreeless than one year of relevant experience is required. A masters degree and two years of experience is preferred.
Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States.
What You Will Do
Data Collection and Analysis
- Collect Training Data: Gather data from training sessions and practices using technologies such as GPS force plates heart rate monitors and other relevant performance-tracking tools.
- Data Analysis: Analyze data to identify key performance metrics and trends that can inform training decisions and strategies.
- Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collected through regular calibration and equipment maintenance.
Reporting and Communication
- Present Findings: Communicate findings effectively through presentations and written reports to coaches student-athletes and other stakeholders including Health & Wellness staff
- Real-time Feedback: Provide real-time feedback to the coaching staff during training sessions based on live data monitoring.
- Project Updates: Regularly update the Director of Applied Performance Director(s) of Athletics Performance Executive Senior Associate AD for S-A Services and other identified staff on the progress and findings of ongoing analytical projects.
Equipment Management
- Maintain Equipment: Ensure all performance and data monitoring equipment is properly maintained and in working order.
- Troubleshoot Issues: Identify and address technical issues with equipment promptly updating the supervisor on any equipment needs or malfunctions.
- Inventory Management: Manage inventory of all sport science equipment ensuring availability and readiness for all sessions.
Session Support
- Setup and Breakdown: Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment for training sessions and practices ensuring efficient operation and minimal disruption.
- Session Preparation: Prepare and test equipment before training sessions to ensure it is functioning correctly and ready for use.
Collaboration and Support
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with coaches athletic trainers and other support staff to integrate sport science insights into training and performance strategies.
- Interdepartmental Support: Provide sport science support to other departments as needed contributing to a collaborative high-performance environment.
- Student-Athlete Interaction: Engage with student-athletes to explain the purpose and benefits of data collection promoting a culture of performance improvement.
- Director Collaboration: Collaborate with the Director of Applied Performance on departmental initiatives and cross-functional projects.
Professional Development
- Ongoing Development: Stay current with advances in sport science and technology through ongoing training opportunities and share relevant insights with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Other Duties
- Assist with Research Projects: Support ongoing research projects within the department by collecting and analyzing data as required.
- Program Evaluation: Assist in the evaluation of sport science programs and initiatives providing feedback for continuous improvement.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support for the sport science department as needed including scheduling communications and documentation.
- Football Gameday Support: Administer data collection for both home and away football games overseeing the deployment and operation of all performance-monitoring equipment on gameday. This role requires availability for extended travel to support away-game data collection efforts.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylors mission
