What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nations leading voice on mental health. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nations largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Today we are an alliance of hundreds of local affiliates state organizations and a national office that work in communities across the United States to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. NAMI advocates for all who are affected by mental illness both the individuals and the people in their lives. We work to address disparities and injustices and to promote dignity and inclusion for all people with mental illness and their addition to being advocates we educate we listen and we lead as evidenced by our public awareness campaigns the range of programs we provide and our strong public policy.

We are currently seeking a Human Resource Generalist. The Human Resources Generalist will provide confidential administrative support to the CHRO and the Human Resources Department and support various organization-wide projects as assigned. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have excellent communication skills the ability to manage multiple tasks the initiative to improve processes and the flexibility to adapt when opportunities arise and/or priorities shift. They will also support ongoing training initiatives. Oversee track and report on staff training enrollment. The role involves regular interaction with employees and leadership requiring a professional demeanor and the ability to handle confidential information.

This full-time position will work Monday - Friday on a hybrid-based schedule. Must be able to work in the office 1-2 days per week.

Salary Range: $31/hr. - $35/hr. (approx. $60450 - $68250)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in improving the HR portion of the employee onboarding process. Ensure that new employees are engaged through warm welcomes mentorship assignments and engaged in all key site meetings etc.
  • Research and undertake specific projects and other ad-hoc tasks as directed by the CHRO.
  • Run and track weekly headcount metrics including hiring-to-plan diversity and inclusion and compensation competitiveness. Maintain organizational chart. Provide monthly list of birthdays/new hires/anniversary list and ordering anniversary awards.
  • Provide customer service to employees through interactions via telephone email and in person. Ensure interactions are professional and positive.
  • Audit maintain and process leave balances to address corrections adjustments and additions of employee changes in job salary benefits eligibility and paid time off in the HRIS system.
  • Assist the Benefits Sr. Manager with the annual benefits open enrollment process.
  • Assist the Recruiting Sr. Manager with recruiting as needed.
  • Manage the HR Inbox answer queries and provide basic practical advice to employees in relation to policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for tracking required certifications credentials and new hire requirements.
  • Assist with DEI events and communications such as (but not limited to): Black History Month Disability Awareness PRIDE Hispanic Heritage Month and more; manage the publication of the DEI Newsletter and Monthly Calendar.
  • Knowledge of technologies and best practices relevant to instructional materials and teaching platforms a plus.
  • Continue to seek professional development opportunities and conduct research to stay current on employment law benefits pay equity and best practices in recruiting hiring training and retention.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in HR Business Administration or a similar field or equivalent work experience in HR.
  • 1 - 2 years experience working in employee benefits related role.
  • Experience with HRIS programs. Experience with UKG Ready or UltiPro preferred.
  • Working knowledge of federal state local benefits law and strong understanding of benefit policies procedures and practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows enhance productivity and improve overall work quality.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the areas of COBRA HIPAA FMLA ADA
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to enrich relationships while setting effective boundaries.
  • Experience with coordination of meetings health fair/flu shot clinics lunch & learn meetings Zoom virtual meeting and special HR-sponsored events.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Office365 Suite. Advanced skills needed for MS Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with SharePoint and Adobe Pro. (preferred)
  • Ability to analyze organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Experience using Slack and/or Microsoft Teams.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adjust schedule as needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) PHR CBP or CEBS certification a plus.
  • Must pass background check.
