Job Summary
White Rock Medical Center (WRMC) is an independent 218-bed community hospital in East Dallas serving the neighborhoods around White Rock Lake. We offer emergency services surgical care a cardiac catheterization lab critical care and a full range of medical and diagnostic services. As a community-focused hospital we partner with local schools universities and organizations to advance health access and outcomes in our neighborhoods.
Position Summary
The Health Data & Innovation Intern will work with hospital leadership to turn data into the foundation for WRMCs next generation of clinical and operational programs. The intern will work directly with the CEO on strategic data initiatives including population health data from our partnership with the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation (PCCI) internal hospital quality and operational data and external benchmarking. The work will help shape grant proposals alternative payment model submissions and new program designs. This is a rare opportunity for a student to do real analytic work that directly informs what a hospital builds next with a seat close to the top of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Work directly with the CEO on strategic data and innovation projects
Analyze population health data from the PCCI partnership to identify community health patterns high-risk populations and intervention opportunities for East Dallas
Translate data findings into the evidence base for new program proposals including grant applications and alternative payment model (APM) submissions
Conduct literature reviews and research scans to inform program design and validate assumptions
Research federal state and foundation grant opportunities aligned with WRMCs strategic priorities (community health access to care workforce development innovation)
Analyze internal hospital data (readmissions length of stay patient experience quality indicators) to identify trends and improvement opportunities
Build dashboards reports and visualizations that translate complex data into actionable insight for department leaders
Benchmark WRMC against peer hospitals on quality patient experience and operational performance
Prepare briefing materials and analytic summaries for hospital leadership and external partners
What You Will Learn
How hospital leadership uses data to set strategy and design new programs
The end-to-end pipeline from data analysis program design grant or payment model proposal
Healthcare quality frameworks (CMS Leapfrog peer benchmarking) and how they shape hospital strategy
Practical analytic workflow: data cleaning analysis visualization and presentation to non-technical audiences
How innovation partnerships between hospitals research centers and payers actually work
Qualifications
Current undergraduate (rising junior or senior) or graduate student in public health biostatistics health informatics epidemiology health policy data science economics or a related quantitative field
Proficiency in Excel required; experience with at least one of R Python SQL Tableau or Power BI strongly preferred
Comfortable working with messy real-world data and asking clarifying questions
Strong analytic writing skills able to translate findings into clear decision-ready summaries
Interest in healthcare quality population health health services research or healthcare innovation
Coursework or prior experience in research methods statistics or program evaluation is a plus

Position Details
Duration: 68 weeks summer 2026
Hours: 2040 hours per week (flexible based on student availability)
Compensation: Paid position (hourly; rate commensurate with academic level)
Location: On-site at WRMC 9440 Poppy Drive Dallas TX 75218 (hybrid flexibility for specific project work)
Reports to: VP of Operations
