Job Summary

Overview

Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition (MFFC) () grew out of an effort to draw on the wonderful ethnic and cultural diversity of the Mattapan community to promote a healthy living environment with a focus on access to healthy foods and the promotion of physical fitness for all ages. Positive changes in these areas complement other efforts to decrease health problems like diabetes heart disease obesity and other health conditions that plague our community. MFFC is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE ().

Mission Statement: MFFC builds intergenerational leadership within Mattapans Black and Brown community to advocate for equitable access to healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director (AD) is a senior leadership role responsible for leading core internal functions and ensuring strong execution across programs operations and organizational systems. The AD serves as a strategic partner to the Executive Director and plays a key role in strengthening infrastructure supporting growth and ensuring alignment between day-to-day implementation and long-term priorities.

Essential Functions

Primary Ownership:

Organizational Operations

  • Act as the primary organizational lead in the Executive Directors absence
  • Manage special projects and organizational priorities under the direction of the Executive Director
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with staff partners and community members
  • Supervise assigned staff providing coaching mentoring performance management and professional development in partnership with our fiscal sponsor
  • Support the development and implementation of HR processes policies and staff resources in partnership with our fiscal sponsors HR
  • Cultivate a collaborative inclusive and mission-driven workplace culture
  • Support hiring onboarding and workforce planning efforts for MFFC
  • Oversee day-to-day office operations logistics and core administrative systems

Programs Membership & Evaluation

  • Oversee membership strategy engagement retention and growth
  • Support program enhancement and development aligned with organizational priorities
  • Support staff in the development of program work plans timelines and performance metrics
  • Contribute to and strengthen the projects monitoring evaluation and learning (MEL) framework
  • Provide evaluation support for membership and programmatic initiatives
  • Ensure programs are responsive to community needs and aligned with mission and strategy
  • Co-develop community engagement strategies and support community meetings and activities

Organizational Support Functions:

Marketing & Communications

  • Support the projects marketing and communications strategy in collaboration with staff and leadership ensuring consistent mission-driven messaging
  • Oversee social media strategy and content in partnership with the Development & Communications Coordinator

Finance & Administration

  • Assist with annual budgeting financial reporting and compliance
  • Support financial management tasks such as invoicing expense reports and tracking program-related financial activities
  • Attendance at check in meetings with the projects fiscal sponsor and Grants and Finance Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage assigned staff - currently the Youth Development Manager Program Manager Food Access Manager
  • Provide coaching mentorship and performance management
  • Ensure alignment between program implementation communications and development priorities

Shared Leadership with the Executive Director:

Organizational Leadership & Strategic Support

  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director and contribute to high-level decision-making and strategic planning
  • Co-Lead organization-wide initiatives that strengthen infrastructure operational effectiveness and long-term growth
  • Represent the Executive Director in meetings decisions and external engagements as needed
  • Support the development monitoring and reporting of annual organizational goals and work plans
  • Attend board meetings in partnership with the Executive Director support preparation of board materials presentations and reports
  • Co-lead the design implementation and continuous improvement of programs and initiatives with direction from the Executive Director
  • Other duties as assigned

Development & External Engagement

  • Support the execution of the projects fundraising and development strategy
  • Support with grant writing grant reporting and grant stewardship
  • Support with fundraising events including planning coordination implementation volunteer management and evaluation of performance to implement improvements
  • Support building and maintaining relationships with donors partners and community stakeholders
  • Lead member and volunteer engagement related to fundraising outreach and donor cultivation

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • Commitment to racial equity community leadership and the mission of MFFC.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit leadership operations development and/or community engagement. Formal education in nonprofit management community engagement and organizational development is a plus
  • Demonstrated strengths in organizational operations personnel management systems building and partnership development
  • Strong financial acumen and experience supporting budget management
  • Strong project management problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities
  • Values-driven collaborative leadership style with commitment to racial equity community-centered work and MFFCs mission
  • Demonstrated success in grant writing fundraising strategy and donor stewardship
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs projects and staff
  • Strong organizational analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written; preferably experience in marketing or communications
  • Familiarity with community engagement grassroots organizing or community-driven initiatives
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff residents community partners and volunteers.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole (preferred)
  • Ability to travel throughout Boston
  • Some evening and weekend availability required

Compensation and Benefits

Location:Work will be primarily performed onsite - 1613 Blue Hill Ave Mattapan MA 02126

Schedule: Hybrid position with some Saturdays and evening availability required

Compensation:The salary range for this position is $68000 - $72000/yr. and is commensurate with experience
