Job Summary:The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary:The Global Water Security Center (GWSC) at the University of Alabama and the Climate Measurements Center of Excellence (CMEC) physically sited at the University of Vermont seek a water-focused scientist or engineer for a new Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Water -located with GWSC an applied research and operational center commissioned to respond to our nations need for water and environmental security insights and will learn from and build on GWSCs expertise in interdisciplinary research to operations.

This position will join the interdisciplinary CMEC team focused on developing standardized frameworks methods and measurements to assess climate change impacts. Selects implements and evaluates a wide range of precipitation and surface water metrics. The project will involve both reviewing and writing up potential metrics and working with large datasets to conduct both spatial and temporal analysis of selected metrics.

This is a one year position renewable for up to three years. Continuation in this position is contingent upon availability of external funding derived from research programs or specific projects.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in any type of Environmental Science hydrology geography or water-related field. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.

Skills and Knowledge:Knowledge and understanding of water data; managing and analyzing large multi-dimensional datasets; spatial and temporal statistics. Knowledgeable in climate change science. Demonstrable knowledge in a programming language or languages often applied to environmental datasets; examples could include R Python MATLAB or other GIScience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with group members. Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. Self-starter. Ability to brainstorm and creatively analyze datasets. Ability and readiness to work closely with researchers across a range of disciplines to analyze water weather and climate data.
