The Calian Nuclear team provides a comprehensive range of services covering the entire nuclear lifecycle. This includes Safety Analysis Licensing Emergency Preparedness Environmental Protection Decommissioning Waste management and cutting-edge Systems Engineering and Robotics.
Position Overview
Calians Nuclear Division is seeking a Business Development Executive to grow and protect key enterprise accounts while expanding our footprint across Canadas nuclear sector. This is a commercially focused role for someone who understands how nuclear utilities regulators and project teams buy services and who can build the kind of long-cycle relationships that translate into multi-year contracts.
You will serve as the primary commercial point of contact for large enterprise customers while simultaneously identifying and qualifying new opportunities across the nuclear and energy sector. The ideal candidate brings technical fluency in nuclear services experience navigating complex procurement processes and the discipline to manage a structured pipeline.
Responsibilities
Account Management & Growth
- Own and grow the commercial relationship across two key enterprise accounts developing account plans that align Calians full service nuclear portfolio (safety analysis environmental services engineering decommissioning emergency management and project management) to each customers multi-year project roadmap
- Identify expansion opportunities tied to active capital programs including refurbishment planning cycles outage schedules and regulatory submission milestones and translate these into scoped proposals with defined revenue targets
- Lead quarterly business reviews with senior customer stakeholders presenting Calians delivery performance forecasting upcoming needs and proactively introducing relevant capabilities where they can add value beyond the current engagement
- Manage multi-year contract renewals and master service agreement negotiations ensuring continuity of recurring work while structuring agreements that support scope expansion over the contract lifecycle
New Business Development
- Build and manage a pipeline of new opportunities across Canadian nuclear utilities Crown corporations and technology developers with particular focus on major active programs: OPGs Darlington SMR New Nuclear Wesleyville and Pickering refurbishment as well as Bruce Powers Major Component Replacement and Bruce C planning.
- Continue to grow Calians footprint as a trusted service provider for new nuclear builds
- Conduct discovery meetings and needs assessments with prospective customers to identify where Calian can deliver differentiated value
- Develop relationships with procurement and technical leads at utilities technology developers (Atkins Realis GE Hitachi Westinghouse) and project delivery organizations entering the Canadian market positioning Calian as a preferred local services partner
- Represent Calian at sector events including Canadian Nuclear Association forums utility-hosted supply chain days and industry engagement sessions building visibility and sourcing early-stage opportunity intelligence
Capture & Proposal Management
- Lead capture planning for priority procurements coordinating subject matter experts across Calians nuclear disciplines to develop win strategies bid decisions scope narratives and competitive pricing structures aligned to customer priorities
- Develop customer-specific value propositions that differentiate Calians integrated offering
- Maintain a disciplined pipeline in HubSpot ensuring opportunities are accurately staged risks are flagged and revenue forecasting reflects realistic close timelines consistent with the long procurement cycles typical in the Canadian nuclear sector
- Support pricing strategy and commercial risk assessment on major bids working with the nuclear division leadership team to balance competitiveness with sustainable margin
Other duties as required within the context of the role.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in business development sales or account management with direct exposure to the Canadian nuclear industry or broader energy/defence sectors
- Working knowledge of nuclear services. Familiarity with the Canadian regulatory environment (CNSC) utility procurement processes and project delivery models is a strong asset
- Demonstrated experience managing complex long-cycle sales processes and multi-stakeholder relationships
- Experience supporting or leading capture and proposal efforts for government or utility contracts
- Proficiency with HubSpot or similar CRM platforms and pipeline management disciplines
- Post-secondary education in engineering business or a related technical field; equivalent industry experience will be considered
What Sets You Apart
- Youve worked inside a nuclear utility regulator or service provider and you understand how procurement decisions get made
- Youre as comfortable in a technical conversation with an engineer as you are presenting a business case to an executive
- You know the Canadian nuclear landscape: the utilities the projects in development and the organizations shaping the sectors next decade
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible for Government of Canada security clearances and nuclear site security clearances.
- Ability to travel to client sites on a regular basis.
Compensation
$100000$150000 annual base salary plus performance-based commission.
