Position Summary
Nah Tah Wahsh PSA is seeking a skilled and student-centered part-time Industrial Arts Teacher to provide hands-on instruction in woodworking building trades and home repair for students in grades 612. This position focuses on developing practical skills problem-solving abilities and career awareness through project-based learning.
Grounded in the values of the Hannahville Indian Community this role emphasizes real-world application craftsmanship and culturally relevant learning. The teacher will create opportunities for students to build skills that support independence community contribution and lifelong learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Program Development
Plan and deliver hands-on project-based instruction in woodworking construction and home repair skills
Teach safe and proper use of tools equipment and materials
Develop lessons that connect technical skills to real-world applications and career pathways
Incorporate basic math measurement reading and problem-solving skills into instruction
Integrate culturally relevant practices and community-based knowledge where appropriate
Safety & Learning Environment
Maintain a safe organized and well-managed shop/classroom environment
Enforce all safety procedures and ensure proper use of equipment at all times
Conduct routine safety checks of tools and equipment
Promote student responsibility teamwork and pride in workmanship
Student Engagement & Support
Build positive relationships with students and encourage active participation
Differentiate instruction to meet a range of skill levels and learning needs
Support students in developing employability skills such as reliability communication and collaboration
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
Collaborate with staff to support school goals and cross-curricular connections
Participate in staff meetings and professional development as appropriate for part-time staff
Assist in maintaining inventory and recommending materials and equipment purchases
Support student projects that may benefit the school or community
Qualifications
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Industrial Arts/CTE endorsement preferred) or relevant industry experience in woodworking construction or related trades
Bachelors Degree preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Demonstrated knowledge of tool safety and construction practices
Ability to work effectively with middle and high school students
Strong classroom/shop management and communication skills
Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and working with Native/Indigenous students and communities
Compensation & Benefits
Part-time position; compensation based on Nah Tah Wahsh PSA salary structure and experience
Limited benefits may apply based on assigned hours
