Facilities Support Unit Laborer

General Definition:

• This is semi-skilled work performing a variety of logistical maintenance and facilities support services for County departments. The position involves carrying out assigned tasks related to material transport facility upkeep grounds maintenance and general support services across multiple County locations.
• Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor or team lead with assignments received verbally or in writing. Duties are generally routine but may vary based on operational needs. Employees are expected to work independently on assigned tasks while following established procedures and safety guidelines.

Typical Examples of Work:

• Performs County-wide logistical support services including:
  • Picking up and delivering archive materials to designated storage locations
  • Transporting shredding materials for secure destruction
  • Delivering supplies such as rock salt and other materials to County facilities
  • Collecting and transporting scrap materials and surplus items for recycling or disposal
• Assists with facility transitions and special projects including moving materials clearing spaces and supporting departmental relocations such as Archives transitions
• Performs routine cleaning tasks at designated County locations including offices restrooms and common areas in accordance with established standards
• Performs grounds maintenance duties at multiple County properties including:
  • Grass cutting trimming and general landscape upkeep
  • Maintenance of cemeteries administrative buildings and institutional grounds
• Operates hand tools power equipment and light-duty vehicles as needed to complete assigned tasks
• Loads unloads and moves materials supplies and equipment
• Follows all safety procedures and properly uses personal protective equipment
• Maintains basic records of work performed as required
• Assists other team members and departments with general support tasks as needed
• Performs related work as required

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of maintenance groundskeeping and general labor practices
• Ability to safely operate hand tools power equipment and light vehicles
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting carrying and moving materials weighing 50 pounds or more on a regular basis and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and County staff
• Basic understanding of workplace safety practices

Acceptable Training & Experience:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent AND Some experience in maintenance groundskeeping labor or a related field preferred
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities
