DCHC also provides equity-based programs and services that focus on priority populations such as Indigenous Black the 2SLGBTQI Community Newcomers to Canada Seniors and Unattached patients (i.e. those without a family doctor) to name a few. DCHC ensures Durham community members receive not only sick care but preventive care as well.

Position Overview
DCHC is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Summer Event Planner to support our Fund Development and Strategic Communications portfolio. This placement offers hands-on experience in event planning public relations and community engagement within a mission-driven public-sector environment.
The Summer Event Planner will support several key initiatives including DCHCs Annual General Meeting annual golf tournament and multiple community health and wellness events while also contributing to broader strategic communications activities.
To be eligible for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative you must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year; or have completed a diploma or a degree
- be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Execute 2026 DCHC Golf Classic
- Coordinate final planning logistics for the 2026 Golf Classic ensuring all elements are on schedule and within budget.
- Manage vendor and venue communications including confirming contracts menus sponsorship activations signage prizes and volunteer needs.
- Support sponsor stewardship by tracking deliverables confirming sponsor participation and assisting with recognition activities.
- Prepare event materials including registration forms signage nametags schedules and thank-you letters.
- Coordinate day-of-event logistics including volunteer management registration setup sponsor recognition contests and on-site flow.
- Assist with event evaluation data entry and final reporting.
Development of New Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Event
- Conduct research on peer-to-peer and community-based fundraising event models (e.g. walks tournaments challenges) relevant to DCHCs mission and community.
- Support the creation of an event concept proposal including objectives audience theme and potential revenue streams.
- Identify and benchmark similar events in the region to inform format pricing and engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with the Fund Development team to develop a sponsorship framework and preliminary budget for the new event.
- Assist in planning initial marketing and engagement strategies to build excitement and awareness for the upcoming transition.
Volunteer & Community Engagement
- Support volunteer recruitment scheduling and coordination for both events.
- Create clear volunteer role descriptions and day-of instructions.
- Provide on-site supervision and ensure volunteers are supported and recognized.
- Contribute to post-event volunteer appreciation and evaluation processes.
Marketing & Communications Support
- Assist in developing promotional materials social media content and email communications related to both events.
- Help manage event pages on the DCHC website and online registration tools.
- Track engagement metrics (registrations sponsorships online traffic etc.) and report progress to the Fund Development team.
Administrative & Reporting Tasks
- Maintain accurate event records contact lists and tracking spreadsheets.
- Support creation of post-event reports including budget reconciliation and lessons learned.
- Assist with coordination across internal departments (Finance Facilities Communications etc.) to ensure alignment and smooth execution.
Qualifications
- Current student or recent graduate in Event Planning Public Relations Communications Marketing or a related program
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in community engagement health equity or the non-profit/public sector
- Organized detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple tasks
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Valid Ontario drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
