This temporary position is with NC DNCR Museum of Natural Science located at 11 W. Jones Street Raleigh NC Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $16.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

The Dept of Natural and Cultural Resources Museum of Natural Sciences is seeking a Museum Tech I for (3) temporary assignments. The work schedule is full time with sporadic scheduling.

The selected candidate(s) for these roles will:
Punctually opening and closing the Living Conservatory to Museum guests according to set schedules and supervisor instructions; working either fixed or flexible schedules
Staffing - the entry and exit positions in the Living Conservatory according to operating procedures and coordinating with the team to ensure smooth operation during the workday
Interpreting - Living Conservatory content and related topics answering guest questions and fostering a guest experience that is exciting informative and inclusive
Continually monitoring the animals plants and resources in the Living Conservatory; identifying potential issues; creating records and communicating with care staff
Identifying and intervening in cases of problem guest behavior; protecting animals plants and other assets contacting Museum animal care and security staff as needed

As determined by the supervisor this position may also:
Support and deliver other types of guest-facing programming during Museum events
and other duties when needed

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

  • Working knowledge of basic natural history zoology botany or similar field applicable to the area of assignment.
  • Basic ability to judge risk and effectively minimize common dangers for guests (wet floors access to restricted areas preventing damage etc).
  • Great customer service skills with the ability to verbally communicate effectively with guests of all ages.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as related to knowledge skills and abilities in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
