Job Summary
Under immediate supervision positions in this class are responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of environmental ordinances laws regulations projects and programs.
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109 the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
1. Assists in the planning and implementation of environmental programs and/or projects by researching designing analyzing revising and making recommendations for program enhancement.
2. Assists in the research development coordination implementation and evaluation of environmental programs and/or projects mandated by federal state and local laws and statutes.
3. Updates and maintains database information by researching information performing data entry updating databases and creating reports for review and analysis.
4. Conducts presentations and public outreach by developing working relationships with community agencies and representing the department in the community.
5. Assists staff in preparing materials securing location and participant recruitment for trainings conferences and outreach presentations.
6. Writes letters memos reports and other documents to staff the general public and community organizations in order to communicate information and data.
7. Assists in the development and implementation of contract grants and other expenditure processes by reviewing reports and payments to grantees according to agency policies and tracking expenditures.
8. Responds to written and verbal inquiries from the public by phone or in writing regarding complaints and requests for information.
Qualifications :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
These minimum qualifications establish the education training experience special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Please note additional qualifications (i.e. special conditions) may apply to a particular position and will be stated on the exam/job announcement.
- Current Category 16 17 or 18 Exempt Employee in Class 5638 who has worked at least 2080 hours in class 5638;
- Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: One (1) year of experience in planning coordinating implementing analyzing or evaluating qualifying programs or policies. Qualifying programs and policies include those in the field of environment public health community engagement or a field related to the position for hire.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience as described above may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis. Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

It will serve as the Training and Experience Assessment for this recruitment and will be used to determine your eligibility for this recruitment as well as your score and rank on the eligible list. Qualified applicants will be ranked on the eligible list based on the length of their exempt City service (in Category 16 17 and/or 18) in the 5638 Environmental Assistant class along with any additional qualifying points (e.g. promotive status) as outlined in Civil Service Commission (CSC) rules. All work history will be verified using official City records which will serve as the final authority in determining qualifying service.

Eligible List/Score Report:
A confidential eligible list of qualifying candidates will be created and used for certification purposes only. A score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information including names of applicants on the eligible list shall not be made public unless required by law. However an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this selection process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. because of appeals) as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
Certification Rule:
The certification rule for this selection process will be Rule of the List.
