Job Summary

Job Title: Junior Graphic Designer

Institution:Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a home location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Hiring Salary Range:$38788 - $48484

Job Purpose:The Junior Graphic Designer is responsible for producing high-quality visual content that supports the colleges mission student recruitment efforts and campus-wide communications. Working under the guidance of senior creative staff this position will translate concepts into engaging designs for print digital and social media platforms ensuring all work adheres to the colleges official brand guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops digital assets for the college website and social media platforms (e.g. Instagram Facebook LinkedIn) to enhance online visibility and promote student engagement.
  • Plans designs and produces visually engaging print and digital materialsincluding brochures flyers posters campus signage and advertisementsthat support College programs events and promotional initiatives.
  • Maintains consistent application of the colleges brand identity across all media by adhering to approved visual standards including logos typography and color palettes.
  • Works collaboratively with the Communications and Marketing team as well as College faculty and staff to execute design solutions that effectively convey departmental and institutional messages and that meet specific project objectives.
  • Organizes and maintains the departments digital asset library including photography icons and archived project files ensuring accessibility accuracy and version control.
  • Assist in preparing print-ready files and coordinate with approved locally based Tennessee printing vendors to ensure quality production and timely project delivery.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associates degree in Digital Media Graphic Design Marketing or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign Illustrator Photoshop) and Microsoft Suite.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating a solid understanding of layout typography and color theory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to take constructive feedback professionally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within an educational or non-profit setting.
  • Familiarity with ADA accessibility standards for web and digital design (essential for public institutions).

Leadership & Supervisory:The position operates with general supervision with most tasks being guided by broad policies and procedures. Work is checked for short to intermediate-term results but not on the procedures used to accomplish these objectives.

Environment & Working Conditions:The office environment is temperature-controlled with occasional fluctuations well-lit and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. May be exposed to varying conditions when traveling to various work locations.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

  • Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors can lead to eye strain stress or headaches. Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
  • Occasional travel to local WSCC events may be necessary.
