Research Professor
Job Summary
The Buseck Center for Meteorite Studies (BCMS) in the School of Earth and Space Exploration SESE) at Arizona State University invites applications for a Research Professor position. Rank will be commensurate with experience and credentials. This is a non-tenure track benefits-eligible position subject to annual renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance availability of resources and the needs of the unit. Anticipated start date is May 18 2026 but a later start date is negotiable.
The position of Research Professor in the Buseck Center for Meteorite Studies is a key appointment in support of essential functions in the Center. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the BCMS Director in supporting the mission of the Center and involves such functions as assisting in collections-related activities; coordinating BCMS participation in education and public outreach activities and events; generating and maintaining BCMS archives and records publications and informational materials (including but not limited to website content); oversight of public exhibits (e.g. the meteorite gallery on 2nd floor of ISTB4 but also exhibits at other institutions) involving BCMS collection or educational materials; and assisting with any other Center-related activities as and when required. An additional core responsibility is the development of an independent research program that supports the BCMS mission of creating and sharing new knowledge in the field of meteoritics and allied sciences.
Please Note: It is expected that 25% of the successful candidates salary will come from extramural sources secured by the successful candidate.

Essential Functions:
- Assist the BCMS Director to support the mission of the Center
- Assist in collections-related activities
- Coordinate BCMS participation in education and public outreach activities and events

Required Qualifications:
- A PhD in a physical science by date of appointment.
- Evidence of original research in meteoritics or closely allied field.
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of ability to procure research funding.
- Evidence of educational outreach activities in support of meteoritics or closely allied field.
- Evidence of experience in collections management activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty staff students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
