The Opportunity:
The Program in Data Analytics and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Teaching) career-track faculty position in Everett WA with a specialty in Data Analytics and Mathematics. This is a fixed-term 9-month 3-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. It is anticipated the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16 2026.
We seek applicants with expertise in Data Science and Analytics who can contribute to instruction in data analytics and foundational applied mathematics. Relevant areas of expertise include data structures artificial intelligence and machine learning data mining databases data modeling data ethics corporate or business analytics as well as applied and discrete mathematics areas that support data analytics such as algebraic and quantitative reasoning discrete structures and mathematical foundations for business and data applications. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses for the Data Analytics program and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics create curriculum innovation and work with us to continue to develop and expand the Data Analytics program at WSU.
The responsibilities of the position are teaching and programmatic development (80%) and service to the program department college university community and profession (20%). The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses within the Data Analytics undergraduate addition the successful candidate will work in the programmatic development in Data Analytics including curriculum revision and development overseeing undergraduate research efforts and outreach initiatives for the program. Finally the successful candidate will be expected to serve on department college and university committees and work collaboratively respectfully and productively with other faculty staff and students from a wide range of disciplines cultures and academic backgrounds.

Additional Information:
Salary: $60000 - $70000 for the 9-month academic year Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Required Qualifications:
Earned Ph. D. in Data Science Data Analytics Statistics Applied or Computational Mathematics Computer Science or related fields grounded in Data Science; or MS in one of the above fields with at least three (3) years by the time of hire of industry experience in data science/analytics or teaching experience in one of the above fields.
Demonstrated record of or potential for program and curricular development.
Proven or potential for successful teaching and instruction.
Demonstrated record of or potential for ensuring access and opportunity in all aspects of our educational experiences as in alignment with WSUs land grant mission.

About the Program in Data Analytics:The Program in Data Analytics was established in 2017 as a joint effort between multiple colleges and departments within the University. It offers a BS degree in Data Analytics on Pullman Everett Vancouver and Global campuses. Having started with less than 30 students in Fall 2018 the program now has a vibrant study body of 230 students. The students take classes in Computer Science Mathematics Statistics and a domain of their choice. However most of the classes have been developed for the students under a DATA prefix. The program is a semi-independent unit within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The program has strong industry support with a vibrant Industry Board.
