Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):
To assist the professor with the construction of datasets related to research projects studying legislative representation in the early 1900s US.
Transferable Skills:
Communication: Work with a supervisor and collaborate with other research assistants.
Attention to detail: Complete projects that require careful attention to small details.
Organization: Manage several datasets and spreadsheets containing detailed information on legislative boundaries.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Construct data sets matching legislative districts to enumeration district and county boundaries. Work will involve reading maps and written descriptions of district boundaries creating spreadsheets in Excel and potentially merging datasets in R.
Qualifications: High level of attention to detail and organization is necessary for this project. Strong research skills required. Prior experience in Microsoft Excel required. Prior experience in R is preferred but not necessary.
