Job Summary

The Research Assistant I will work as part of a team with the goal of using epigenomics to create an atlas of the human brain at single-cell resolution through both sequencing and imaging. This position will involve training in specialized techniques related to the Ecker lab focus of single cell multiomics. Main duties for this position may include large-scale generation of methylation sequencing libraries using a robotic pipetting system Cryostat sectioning and fluorescence imaging for spatial transcriptomics through MERSCOPE nuclei production and sorting and treatment of nuclei to evaluate chromatin conformation. Other duties include general laboratory maintenance coordination with collaborators and FACS core for cell sorting participation in regular team meetings to discuss progress and well-organized LIMS and data recording.

The Research Assistant I will work closely with lab staff and scientists in the laboratory to support ongoing research efforts.

This position requires strong experimental skills including sterile technique molecular cloning DNA and RNA preparation gel electrophoresis genotyping PCR root sectioning and microscopy. It requires careful attention to detail and the ability to effectively balance research support responsibilities within a collaborative scientific environment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Perform duties to support experiments on a variety of experiments using bisulfite sequencing magnetic bead DNA purification and PCR.
  • Perform tissue sectioning with Cryostat
  • Fluorescence staining protocols for imaging
  • Isolate cellular nuclei from brain tissue
  • Chromatin assays
  • Sample tracking and scheduling
  • Coordination with others for sample processing
  • Updating LIMS as necessary with sample information
  • Attend weekly lab meetings and assist with problem solving
  • General lab/equipment upkeep
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management

What we Require

  • No professional experience required.
  • Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences or related scientific discipline required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a scientific role is required for consideration of a Bachelors degree in a different discipline.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office

    The expected pay range for this position is $18.00-$21.00 hourly.Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal equity geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
