The Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) was created in 1968 and leads City efforts to promote thriving neighborhoods through community revitalization investments; supporting homeowners; funding critical programs and neighborhood stakeholders; creating and preserving affordable housing; and ensuring safe conditions through code enforcement.TheExecutive Assistantto the Deputy Commissionerwill be a strong administrative professional that performs a variety of complex office administrative and keyboarding work using Microsoft Office and other proprietary software programs to support DHCD agency leadership. The position is also responsible for tasks such as scheduling managing emails and meeting preparation for the Deputy Commissioner. Also provides advice staff assistance and administrative support to the Deputy Commissioner of Homeownership & Housing Preservation. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Essential Functions
- Attends conducts and participates in meetings conferences and similar situations to gather or present information.
- Exercises sound independent judgment in screening mail telephone calls and visitors; decides what matters come to superiors attention; provides information or answers to questions not requiring superiors attention.
- Maintains appointment schedule and arranges meetings and conferences for Deputy Commissioner; suggests and arranges alternate dates when original schedule cannot be met; notifies superior in advance of meetings and assembles correspondence files and other material for meetings.
- Maintains meeting notes for meetings attended by the superior.
- Composes correspondence independently; routes information or work instructions from supervisor to staff members; monitors deadlines and follow-up actions.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees necessary to expedite matters for superior.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
AND
Experience:Have five years of experience in performing executive level administrative support work including two years working in a confidential environment.
OR
Equivalency Notes:Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration.
- Ability to plan organize and coordinate a program of administrative functions in a governmental organization.
- Ability to develop implement and interpret policies procedures and directives.
- Ability to research and compile administrative reports and documents and to analyze planning reports and statistical information.
- Ability to deal with confidential materials and situations with discretion tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Administrative ability.

Background Check

Probation
All persons including current City employees selected for this position must complete a 6-MONTH mandatory probation.
