Essential Functions: | 60% of the time the Assistant Financial Controller must: - Provide leadership and vision for Foundation Accounting operations setting strategic direction for the department.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP federal state and other tax regulations as well as Foundation policies and internal controls.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns maintaining up to date knowledge of regulatory changes.
- Lead and coordinate the annual audit process working with auditors and implementing recommendations.
- Establish maintain and monitor internal controls to safeguard Foundation assets and ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Supervise mentor and develop the Foundation Accounting team fostering a collaborative and customer-focused environment.
- Serve as a key resource to the Foundation Deputy Controller Foundation leadership and Foundation units on complex accounting compliance and financial reporting matters.
- Investigate interpret and provide guidance on complex financial or tax-related issues to Foundation departments and stakeholders.
35% of the time the Assistant Financial Controller: - Oversee the preparation review and validation of monthly financial statements and ad hoc financial reports to ensure accuracy completeness and timeliness.
- Review and approve complex or adjusting journal entries and ensure the integrity of the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and Foundation accounting policies.
- Implement and maintain accounting procedures internal controls and process improvements while providing guidance and training to Foundation accounting staff.
- Prepare and review complex reports and schedules requiring broad knowledge of accounting principles for internal and external reporting and year-end audit.
- Lead coordination of financial data collection across Foundation units to support reporting audits and informed strategic decision-making.
- Oversee accounting and compliance for restricted funds endowments and donor-restricted resources ensuring adherence to donor requirements.
- Lead evaluation implementation and optimization of accounting systems and automated processes to enhance operational efficiency data accuracy and reporting capabilities.
- Collaborate with other Foundation finance and accounting staff to ensure consistent accounting practices and aligned operational processes.
- Provide guidance and training to Foundation staff and departments on accounting procedures reporting standards and compliance requirements.
5% of the time the Assistant Financial Controller: - Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: | - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.

- Experience with Foundation or nonprofit accounting preferred.
