Position Overview
FortisBC is looking for a skilled Financial Accounting Manager to play a central role in delivering accurate timely and insightful financial information that supports both internal decisionmaking external reporting and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Manager Financial and Regulatory Accounting youll lead core accounting operations guide a highperforming team and collaborate across the business to support strategic initiatives budgeting and forecasting activities and regulatory filings.
This is an opportunity to influence financial processes strengthen controls and contribute to the financial integrity of FortisBC.
In this role you will:
- Lead the full financial accounting cycle ensuring accurate entries timely reconciliations and clear variance analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
- Strengthen and streamline accounting controls systems and procedures to improve accuracy efficiency and compliance.
- Support the preparation and review of financial statements MD&A parent company reporting and other key financial deliverables across multiple entities.
- Partner with teams across the organization to provide accounting guidance under US GAAP and regulatory frameworks.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle ensuring alignment with regulatory filings and consistency with actual results.
- Oversee the preparation and review of regulatory filings including Annual Reports ratesetting submissions to the BCUC and other required documentation.
- Participate in quarterly and annual audits manage auditor requests and ensure adherence to SOX controls.
- Maintain and govern the chart of accounts ensuring compliance with internal policies and BCUC directives.
- Lead mentor and develop accounting staff including hiring training performance management and workload planning.
What it takes:
- A degree in Business or Commerce plus a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA).
- At least 5 years of experience in financial accounting or reporting; experience in a regulated utility environment is an asset.
- Strong technical accounting skills ideally with experience in SAP.
- Solid understanding of regulatory processes and rateregulated environments.
- Strong leadership coaching and teamdevelopment capabilities.
In this role you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week) subject to business or operational needs.
