Special Information:

Telework (if applicable):
You must reside in Montana (or move to Montana) to accept this this position you will be afforded the opportunity to telework however there will be required weekly in-office day(s) in Helena.Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position requires some travel and occasional irregular hours to meet project deadlines or to resolve major hardware or software problems. Weekend hours are also to be expected occasionally. Long hours of PC use are often required.
Specific Job Information:
This position is responsible for providing technical support for the users and computers in FWPs Helena Region. These responsibilities include working with end users to resolve application and hardware problems; assisting users with the States Procurement process for obtaining any IT products or services; maintaining inventory records and maintenance records for agency hardware and software; and planning and scheduling computer conversions and upgrades. Network Services technicians are physically located in FWPs regional headquarters. Technicians must be able to work alone but have the ability to collaborate electronically with their peers that are spread across the entire state. The Network Services Bureau is also responsible for providing support for the Automated Licensing System providers terminal printers and operating systems. These providers vary from large sporting goods stores to small bait shops. Each regional technician is responsible for the file and print servers located in their regions. These responsibilities include managing and installing central printers; installing troubleshooting and maintaining software including operating systems shared applications utilities and upgrades; maintaining documentation on server configuration; and monitoring server disk space utilization and availability of shared resources. This position enjoys a wide variety of technical challenges. A typical day can start with providing video conference support for a Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting then updating a code plug on a wardens radio and finally helping a home office employee access the agencys internal site.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
Position works under the general supervision of the Network Services Bureau Chief. The supervisor coordinates work through work plans and performance appraisals. Generally the position works independently to perform the development documentation operation and maintenance of assigned systems within developed guidelines and standards.
This position may on occasion be required to work flexible hours and/or travel out of state.
Position requires extensive personal contact with agency staff and periodic contact with auditors vendors the public and staff from other state and federal agencies.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Behaviors):
This position requires a high degree of problem-solving abilities. Undocumented problems and issues are common-place and a thorough knowledge of the concepts and theories of data networking are essential. An understanding of switched and routed networks protocols client/server technologies and superior researching skills are all a requirement for successful tenure in this position.
The incumbent should possess the following abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to rapidly achieve in-depth understanding of diverse issues and business needs Information System Specialists 4
