Job Summary

The Paraprofessional provides support for students in the HILIA program at Thomas Metcalf School.

This position is subject to academic break layoff typically mid-May through mid-August.

$15.18 - $19.73 per hour

Required Qualifications

  1. Possession of a valid Paraprofessional Educators License with Stipulations Endorsement as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Skill in signing and/or interpreting and ability to model appropriate use of language and speech when communicating.
  2. Past experience working with students with hearing loss.
  3. Knowledge of listening language and speech development.
  4. Experience working with equipment to facilitate hearing.
  5. Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule.
  6. Ability to transition quickly between classrooms throughout the building in a timely manner.

Work Hours

7:30am-3:30pm Monday through Friday

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

  1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  2. Ability to perform occasional lifting of 50-150 pounds.
  3. Must have good reflexes.
  4. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.

Applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the U.S. without ISU sponsorship. Sponsorship for work authorization will not be considered for this position.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
