Before & After School Program - Summer Adventures Camp -Enrichment Leader

Purpose Statement

The role of Before & After School Program Enrichment Leader is to ensure the physical behavioral and social-emotional needs of all students are met in the out-of-school setting. They engage students by implementing high-quality hands-on enrichment programming and creating a nurturing environment where every student feels safe valued and engaged.

Job Title: Before & After School Program Enrichment Leader

Hourly Rate: $16.00/hour (through June 30) $17.75/hour (effective July 1)

Reports To: Manager of Before & After School Programs and/or Before & After School Program Site Leader/Assistant Site Leader(s)

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Job Details

  • Attend Required Professional Development: Staff Orientation and Training as scheduled
  • Attend additional youth development and other professional development as required
  • Attend site team meetings as scheduled potentially outside of regular program hours

Employment dates: approximately mid-May through mid-August with opportunity to extend employment into the school year

  • Monday through Friday on camp days as scheduled
  • Program hours: 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Individual employee hours will be determined based on program enrollment and may vary from week-to-week. Work hours may/may not match program hours depending on employee qualifications availability and program need.
  • Employees are scheduled up to 29-40 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read understand and effectively implement engaging lesson plans.
  • Experience supervising and engaging groups of school-age students in structured activities preferred.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students and staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and flexibility.
  • Ability to take direction and a willingness to collaborate as part of a team.
  • Ability to implement procedures and support daily operations.
  • Must demonstrate reliable attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified teacher or degreed professional or minimum two years college experience
  • Minimum 2 years classroom/relevant experience working with school-age youth

Essential Functions

  • Read understand and effectively implement hands-on lesson plans
  • Engage students of multiple ages in hands-on activities adapting instructional materials as needed to meet diverse learning needs
  • Supervise and effectively manage classrooms of students
  • Teach expectations model positive behavior and apply de-escalation and conflict-resolution strategies as needed
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and support enrichment assistants in their implementation as directed by the site leader. Assist the site leader in monitoring student progress and provide feedback on student engagement and behavior.
  • Actively engage with students and families to establish a safe positive engaging environment
  • Supervise and actively monitor students in various settings including classrooms and non-classrooms such as cafeterias hallways gyms playgrounds buses during arrival and dismissal and on field trips
  • Demonstrate responsible use of program resources by ensuring appropriate materials are available properly put away and that activity areas are cleaned and organized after use
  • Present a positive professional image of the Before & After School Program while providing exemplary customer care and following the Before & After School Program Standards of Service
  • Collaborate with site leaders and other Before & After School Program staff to meet the needs of all students
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow legal and ethical standards related to student support
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications including adult and child CPR and First Aid and participate in ongoing professional development to ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Health & Human Services minimum standards
  • Adhere to safety protocols and policies established by Ankeny Community School District and the Before & After School Program as well as the Iowa Department of Health & Human Services licensing minimum standards to ensure the safety of oneself and others
  • Support District goals and objectives while adhering to all District policies contributing to the overall success of the school community
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Working Environment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
