Job Summary

Position Overview:

Notre Dame of Maryland Universitys School of Arts Sciences and Businessis currently seekinga full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Communication Arts with a focus in Applied Communication beginning August 2026. Applications including a CV cover letter and any required materials must be submitted through the Universitys online system.The successful candidate will join the Communication Arts Department and teach a full range of communication courses within the liberal arts tradition. Required courses include Media Writing Advertising and Mass Communication Law with elective offerings such as Public Relations Campaign Management and Strategic Communication. The successful candidate may also be asked to serve as Department Chair.Faculty are expected to be flexible in their teaching depending on departmental needs and individual expertise. We welcome additional areas of specialization such as Film Studies or Gender Studies. The standard teaching load is 4/3 with potential course release for department service.

Key Responsibilities

All department faculty teach COM-106: Human Communication in a Digital World as part of the General Education curriculum. Faculty primarily teach face-to-face in the traditional undergraduate program and may also deliver courses in the accelerated undergraduate program and the online M.A. in Contemporary Communication.

The department seeks colleagues who value teaching in a liberal arts and sciences environment and who demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Faculty are expected to be actively engaged in the life of the University including advising students contributing to committee work and participating in department and University events. Faculty members are expected to pursue a productive research agenda and to support student research and practicum experiences.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related discipline. Candidates at the Associate Professor-level must have at least 6 years of full-time undergraduate teaching experience. Demonstrated success teaching both traditional and non-traditional learners is required. Experience with department leadership assessment and online course development is highly desirable.All instructors are expected to convey course information and communicate with students through the Universitys online course management system.
