Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager Fleet Maintenance oversees a maintenance shop fleet equipment and assigned personnel. The incumbent implements and monitors maintenance policies and procedures to ensure that all repairs and maintenance to fleet equipment including trucks (diesel and alternate fuel) machinery containers and other light/heavy-duty equipment are performed in compliance with the Republic Services safety and compliance standards and with all federal and state regulations. The Manager Fleet Maintenance prepares reports on inspection findings and ensures proper vehicle maintenance to comply with prescribed safety regulations. The incumbent may also be responsible to negotiate vehicle and/or equipment purchase terms and specs in coordination with the procurement function.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coaches and develops a team of professionals to assist in their development and attainment of necessary skills to lift performance. Monitors staff performance and drives performance improvement initiatives and ensures that service levels meet or exceed agreed upon standards.
Provides direction to technicians and site leadership to ensure that all repair/maintenance work is performed in a safe efficient and timely manner reallocating resources among sites as appropriate. Oversees coordination planning and scheduling of all repair work to increase productivity while effectively managing the departments overtime.
Monitors operational performance and efficiency; takes action to redirect activities appropriately. Reports to management on performance; implements procedures for process/programmatic changes for improvement or efficiencies.
Maintains an on-going preventive maintenance program for all shops within assigned geographic responsibility. Identifies trends in road calls break downs; oversees maintenance of building and other facility on site; controls maintenance costs relating to personnel purchasing inventory control and outsourcing of repairs.
Performs inspections of outside repairs and maintenance to ensure all work is properly completed in accordance with Company safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations; follows up where appropriate. Identifies training opportunities and as necessary documents issues and constructively discusses corrective actions as needed.
Accountable for scheduled Quality Control Inspections tracking issues and resolutions to ensure all work is properly completed in accordance with Company safety and compliance procedures and federal and state regulations.
Schedules and performs preventative maintenance on facility systems and equipment including: HVAC systems; electrical systems; power generators; exhaust systems; irrigation systems; bay door operationssystems and building structures including roofs gutters doors drywall flooring and painting to ensure a clean safe and productive environment.
Assists in the selection and education of field maintenance personnel to ensure execution and durability of standards processes and practices surrounding the fleet maintenance program(s). Assists with development and education of maintenance talent and works with management to hire train mentor develop and assess staff needs.
Assists management in analyzing evaluating projecting and recommending capital requirements and allocation of assets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough knowledge and application of safe working practices including OHSA Haz Com OHSA Lock Out Tag Out OHSA Fire Safety and other federal and state regulations.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Advanced Root Cause Problem Solving knowledge.
Effective and professional communications skills. Ability to advise and coach frontline and site managers.
Proficient financial management and planning skills; ability to understand financial terms budgets tables and reports.
Fuel Management knowledge or similar technology.
Knowledge in budgeting and financial management of P&L.
Ability to initiate and effectively manage projects including the ability to facilitate obstacle removal and progress toward goals.
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures for vehicles and equipment.
Ability to develop realistic comprehensive plans to make efficient use of resources.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Automotive Service Technician 310S/ Truck and Coach 310T certification. (preferred)
Experience in fleet and/or maintenance management.
Experience working with heavy-duty diesel alternative fuel and/or hydraulic equipment.
Facilities Maintenance Manager experience.
