About Our Opportunity

The Survivors of Gender Based Violence Benefit (SGBV) is jointly funded by the Province and the Government of Canada and provides eligible individuals and families who are fleeing or planning to flee gender-based violence with financial assistance for up to two years.

Under the direction of the Nova Scotia Housing Benefit Programs Manager the SGBV Program Admin Officer will work collaboratively with colleagues community and referral agencies to provide support to individuals or families that have or are planning to leave their home due to acts of gender-based violence.

Primary Accountabilities

As the SGBV Program Administration Officer you will:

  • Research analyze and verify information from a variety of sources.
  • Assess eligibility of individuals and families.
  • Perform case management of client subsidies including annual renewals and interim adjustments.
  • Provide advice and information to clients the public representatives and referral agencies on behalf of the Department of Growth and Development regarding our various government programs and resources.
  • Provide input and feedback on policies guidelines directives and operational processes.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this position you hold an undergraduate degree in addition to one (1) year of directly related experience in gathering researching and analyzing information. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

You are proficient in various computer software programs within Microsoft Office understanding of housing benefit programs as well as a working knowledge of YARDI Property Management and ICM software would be considered an asset.

Understanding the dynamics of gender-based violence trauma-informed approaches and experience with stakeholder engagement are also considered assets.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination standardized tests oral presentations interview(s) and reference checks.

Equivalency


We recognize equivalent combinations of training education and experience providing opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds to contribute their skills and expertise. Equivalencies include but are not limited to:

  • Completion of a related 2-year diploma and 3 years of related experience or
  • At least five (5) years of related experience.

Working Conditions

Most of your time is spent in an office setting with some site visits as required. You may occasionally be required to move/lift light objects such as office supplies equipment and files. Your typical work week is 35 hours with 7-hour days.

Additional Information


This is a TERM employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of May 31 2027. The appointment status (term temporary or casual) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Salary Range: $2112.87- $3029.89Bi-Weekly
