Our Hospitalist team is seeking a Full Time (40 Hour) Nocturnist Physician Assistant. The PA will support physicians collaborate with consultants nurses case managers rehab providers and others to provide high-quality efficient care for Hospitalist Service and Short Stay Unit patients. This role consists of 13-hour overnight shifts (7:00 PM 8:00 AM) with a requirement to work every third weekend and participate in a rotating holiday schedule. The position is based on the NWH main campus at 2014 Washington Street Newton MA 02462.
The Hospitalist PA will be responsible for the following:
Caring for patients on the Short Stay Unit and the inpatient med/surg floors
Completing initial patient evaluations inclusive of obtaining a history completing medication reconciliation performing an exam reviewing diagnostic testing and documenting an H&P as well as entry of admission orders
Monitoring patient progress and coordinating treatment plans with supervising attending consultants and providers in other disciplines
Documenting subsequent encounters through completion of progress notes
Performing procedures in accordance with clinical privileges
Discharging the patient from the hospital including:
oPerforming discharge medication reconciliation
oCoordinating discharge care plan including follow-up with Primary Care Provider and/or subspecialist as needed to ensure safe care transitions
Providing education to patients and family members regarding their illness medications nutrition diagnostic tests procedures care plan and post-discharge care
Triaging patients from NWH ED as well from outside hospitals
Collaborating with nurses hospitalists and other providers to accept patients as appropriate from NWH ED outside hospital EDs and outpatient clinics
Communicating with accepting providers to ensure a smooth transition
Cross-covering non-house staff and Short Stay Unit patients during evening hours
Participating in Short Stay Unit hospital medicine and hospital-wide process improvement quality and safety projects
Assisting in quality assurance quality and process improvement and patient safety initiatives within the Hospital

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients medical and/or surgical including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. Essential Functions
-Provides direct care counseling and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory inpatient operative and/or procedural setting.
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
-Orders interprets and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic laboratory and physical examination findings.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes procedure notes operative notes and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
