PURPOSE
This position manages the medical library of Driscoll Childrens Hospital (DCH). Although an employee of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi the Medical Librarian is contracted to work under the umbrella of DCHs Division of Medical Education. The Medical Librarian works with the DCH Director of Medical Education and others to ensure that the library provides top-quality information resources and services to the medical students and staff of Driscoll Childrens Hospital including the hospitals Corpus Christi and Rio Grande Valley locations.
Driscoll Childrens Hospital opened in 1953 and was the first hospital in South Texas to provide emergency services exclusively for children. Now the Driscoll Health System serves 31 South Texas counties with pediatric specialists in more than 32 medical and 13 surgical specialties. RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Area 1:Administrative 40%
Manages Driscoll Childrens Hospital Library including the development of the annual budget provision of regular reports to supervisors and Library Advisory Committee overseeing library environment maintaining collections and promoting/assessing services and collections.
Attends meetings serves on committees and boards as needed; communicates regularly and effectively with the Dean of University Libraries the Director of Medical Education with Bell Library Staff and with DCH staff.
Prepares and monitors hospital library budget and reports; provides reports to Director of Driscoll Medical Education and TAMU-CC Dean of Libraries as required and scheduled.
May require occasional travel to Driscoll Childrens Hospitals Rio Grande Valley location in Edinburg TX.
Supervises 1 full-time library employee.
Functional Area 2: Collection Management 20%
Develops and maintains collections at hospital library.
Selects material for hospital library databases & collections. Coordinates selection of resources with Library Advisory Committee and hospital staff/physicians/residents.
Functional Area 3:Reference/Research Assistance 35%
Provides reference/research assistance & instruction at Driscoll Childrens Hospital. Provides information about trends in medical research especially related to pediatrics.
Oversees interlibrary loan and document delivery services.
Proactively seeks ways to grow and improve the librarys services. Utilizes appropriate technologies to support the librarys educational and service mission.
Maintains hospital library computers/equipment.
Develops library intranet site reference tools informational materials.
Functional Area 4:Other5%
Maintains current knowledge through participation in professional development and professional organizations.
May participate in research scholarship & creative activities (RSCA).
Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent.
Two (2) years of professional (postMLS) experience in a medical library or two (2) years of professional experience in an academic library to include healthcarerelated background or experience that provides comparable preparation for the role.
Evidence of leadership effective communication and interpersonal & collaborative skills.
Demonstrated commitment to service excellence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five (5) years related experience.
Progressively responsible leadership/supervisory experience.
Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
Experience supporting remote library users.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a rapidly-changing environment.
Expected starting salary $61500 - $68000 Annually. Salary dependent upon education and experience.
- $5125 - $5666.67 Monthly
