Position Overview
The Applications Engineer II is a key customer-facing engineer responsible for system demonstrations buyoffs and system/process development. Customer interactions encompass comprehensive pre-sales support skilled machine configuration during demos and buyoffs and advanced post-sales support. This role actively supports Research and Development (R&D) by providing in-depth application knowledge and characterizing machine performance. The Applications Engineer II also provides mentorship to other team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads new machine setup and calibration activities before customer buyoffs
- Independently executes machine buyoffs including installation and training
- Develops and provides comprehensive training courses for customers
- Drives process development for customers as assigned solving complex challenges
- Provides advanced post-sales process and system support addressing intricate issues
- Conducts system demonstrations either with the customer present or by building parts and returning finished parts with a detailed report
- Makes significant contributions to the system manuals and other forms of documentation
- Systematically collects and provides feedback on opportunities for hardware and software improvements
- Supports senior engineers on complex projects as assigned
- Supports and mentors Engineer I Applications as assigned providing technical guidance and coaching
- Supports R&D by providing application knowledge and characterizing machine performance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Software Engineering
- 5-7 years of process experience in microelectronics
- Root cause analysis experience preferred
- Field service experience is a plus
- Experience in semiconductor design/repair/maintenance required
- Demonstrated proficiency in problem resolution and strong customer service skills
- In-depth understanding of semiconductor back-end process/equipment required
- Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills; ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment malfunctions efficiently and effectively
- Ability to work collaboratively with all departments in the organization
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel frequently within the US

Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Expected pay range is between $75000.00-$105000.00 per year.
Working Conditions/Physical & Mental Demands
The physical demands and working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The worker must be able to be ascending or descending ladders stairs scaffolding ramps poles and the like using feet and legs and/or hands and arms in addition to all body agility emphasized. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking standing or crouching on narrow slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. The worker will also be bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet and extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Remaining upright on the feet particularly for sustained periods of time. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances or moving from one work site location to another. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw drag haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
The worker will endeavor in picking pinching typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm ability to perceive attributes of objects such as size shape temperature or texture by touching with skin particularly that of fingertips. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately loudly or quickly. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound. Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists hands and/or fingers.
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time the job is rated for Light Work. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts moving vehicles electrical current working on scaffolding and high places exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
Travel Requirements: Frequently within the US.
Standard office environment. Significant computer work should be expected.
