Supervisor, Accounts Payable
Job Summary
The Supervisor Accounts Payable (AP) is responsible for operational oversight supervision and direction of the AP team. They provide leadership in support of Sheridans strategic direction Finance business plan and departmental goals and objectives specifically in the following areas: student fees payment and refunds and vendor service. This includes but not limited to account reconciliation payment and refunds onset of processing. The Supervisor ensures that service is flexible business-oriented and built on a foundation of customer-service principles and philosophy within the scope of the practices and policies set out by Sheridan. Accountable for maintaining current activity and supporting new initiatives in a multi-campus service environment that uses integrated information systems and advanced technology.
What Youll Be Doing
- Assisting with setting the departmental goals and objectives establishing and reporting on performance standards along with managing the daily operations of the AP function and manages all processes financial controls and associated risks. Also recommends system and operational improvements.
- Acting as in-house consultant on all issues regarding external payments. Collaborating with faculty Senior Management department and students on the most efficient and effective payment methods while adhering to Sheridan core values.
- Building leading and empowering a diverse and capable team while maintaining a high level of staff performance and building professional capacity through effective recruiting selection learning/development mentoring/coaching scheduling workflow/goal setting and ongoing performance management and evaluation.
- Participating as part of the Finance management team in departmental strategic activities including environmental scanning identifying/surveying customer needs participating on College committees.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

You have proven experience and skills in the development and management of a customer service focussed organization providing multiple services to a broad range of clients and stakeholders in a multi-channel environment.
You enjoy balancing many different tasks staying organized and like to develop processes or systems to keep things running smoothly.
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression equity and inclusion.
The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:
- 4-year bachelors degree in business administration accounting or related field of study
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a finance department including experience overseeing accounts payables (equivalency will be considered)
- Currently holds a CPA designation (i.e. CA CGA or CMA) or an equivalent CPA designation from a reciprocal membership body or mutual recognition agreement
- Proven budget preparation/management skills and ability to develop and recommend creative solutions to address fiscal pressures
- Creative resourceful and flexible; Builds creative strategic partnerships
- Leadership experience with demonstrated ability to lead supervise motivate empower develop staff prepare work plans establish meaningful priorities and maintain high quality of service; also experience with recruitment training and assessment of staff
- Current working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles GAAP
- Computer proficiency: MS Office (Advanced Excel) and Financial Systems (e.g. PeopleSoft Financials)
