TD Legalis dedicated to providingindustry-leading advice and counsel to all TD business segments and corporate functions.In thisrole asSeniorCounsel Litigationyou will join a dynamic and collegial team of legal professionals who provide advicein respect of a range of litigation risks for Canadian Banking.The role is intended to be dynamic with the successful candidate offering support to multiplebusiness teams ona variety of issues within Canadian Banking. The roleprovidesan opportunity to work in an exciting important and busy area while gaining exposure to a range of stakeholders and leaders both within TD Legal and across the enterprise.

Job Accountabilities:

ThisSeniorCounselrolecoversadiverseseniorlevellitigation portfolio.Principal accountabilities includethe areas ofproactive and responsible litigation managementtimelystrategic and tactical advice oversightandrisk managementandsoundpracticalguidance on processes.The candidate is expected to:

  • Manage external counsel in all aspects of litigation at all levels of courtthroughout Canada andto develop and implement strategy for the resolution of litigation.

  • Identifyingkey legal risks and mitigationstrategieswhile ensuring awareness among relevant stakeholders and other members of the TD Legal team.

  • Provide best in class litigation advice that is integrated with the strategies andobjectivesof the business and consistent with the enterprise-wide risk policy.

  • Provide regular oral and written reporting to senior members of the Canadian Banking Legal team other members of the Legal Department and other control groups senior businessexecutivesand various Risk Committees.

  • Provide guidance and training tobusinessandlegalpartners on best practicesanddevelopments in the lawwitha specializedfocus on fraud lawanddiscovery practice.

  • Provideseniorcounsellevel advicein supportofdevelopment and/or implementation of policies procedures and solutions that mitigate risk and enable the achievement of business/enterprise priorities.

  • As required workclosely with othercontrolgroups such as Corporate Security Compliance/Anti-MoneyLaunderingandRisk.

  • Contribute to high priority specialprojects and other Legal Department initiatives.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario.

  • Possess8 yearsofpost-calllitigationexperienceworkingas a litigator

  • In-house litigation experience would be an asset

  • A solid background inbankingfraudand negligencelitigation.

  • Experience litigating large complex matters including class actionsand experience withDiscovery/eDiscovery on large complex matters.

  • Senior-leveladvanced ability toidentifyproblems and barriersand effectively implement solutions tofurtherbusiness strategy.

  • Senior-leveladvanced ability tooperatewith creativity and innovation and a desire to seek different perspectives andnew ideas.

  • Demonstratedexcellenceinjudgmentleadershipand relationship management skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as solid collaboration and teambuilding skills.

  • Flexibility to quickly adapt to changing and ambiguous initiatives or requirements.

  • Ability to multi-taskis criticalandtooperateon a day-to-day basis with limited supervisionisexpected.

  • Strong technology aptitude including (i)proficiencywith standard office software and ability to learn and applynew technologiesin work environment and (ii) capacity to understand current and emerging technologies in the industry and how they affect businessobjectives.
