As part of a small team of programmers embedded within a public health and health policy research group you may contribute to a variety of programming and software development tasks including for example:
Developing and maintaining decision-analytic simulation models across the lifespan for HIV tuberculosis diabetes cardiovascular disease congenital cytomegalovirus ANCA-associated vasculitis e-cigarette use and/or smoking through:
oCoding debugging and testing new features
oOptimizing models with a focus on speed and memory usage
oDeveloping user interfaces for model input/output
oConsulting with research personnel on model structure and parameterization
Developing new and existing user interfaces web apps and data analysis/visualization tools
Meeting regularly with research personnel to devise innovative and scientifically appropriate solutions to modeling and data analysis challenges
Working with research personnel to identify workflow issues and develop technical solutions such as automated scripts or improved user interfaces
Serving as a technical liaison for external collaborators and model developers
Contributing to grant proposals by consulting on technical/programming aspects
Contributing to and acting as co-author on scientific manuscripts and publications (if interested)
Producing documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
Assisting researchers with software-related questions and issues including tasks related to Linux/Windows system administration and high-performance computing cluster usage
Job Summary
Summary-Responsible for extracting knowledge and insights from data in order to investigate business/operational problems through a range of data preparation modeling analysis and/or visualization techniques.Essential Functions-Collects analyzes and reports data to support decisions on day-to-day operations strategic planning and/or specific business performance issues.
-Collates models interprets and analyzes data.
-Explains variances and trends in data.
-Identifies and documents enhancements to modeling techniques.
-Completes thorough quality assurance procedures ensuring accuracy reliability trustworthiness and validity of work.
-Performs data validation of source-to-target data for data visuals and dashboards.
Qualifications
Education
- B.S. in Computer Science Mathematics Data Science Statistics Computational Biology or related field

Experience
Job Qualifications Include the following:
- Demonstrated experience with Python R JavaScript or similar scripting language
- Familiarity with software development focused on performance and efficient resource utilization
- Basic familiarity with C/C and ability to expand expertise
- Comfortable with cross-platform software development (macOS Windows and Linux)
- Quick to learn new technologies and scientific concepts
One or more of the following desired but not required:
- Interest in medicine health policy and/or public health
- Professional development experience with C/C or other general purpose programming language
- Web app GUI and/or data visualization development experience
- Experience developing software that utilizes parallel computing techniques
- High performance cluster computing experience
- Linux/Windows systems administration
- Experience in computational statistics Bayesian methods and/or probability theory
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Healthcare knowledge particularly as it pertains to electronic medical record data is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of relational databases SQL data visualization and Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau.
- Knowledge and application of statistical analyses including variance analysis and statistical significance are preferred.
- Project management skills and/or experience are a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
Additional Job Details (if applicable)
Duties will be carried out primarily in a typical office environment with the potential option for some remote work. We value work-life balance and hours will be a standard 40 hours per week from Monday-Friday. Hours outside the 9-5 workday may be required on occasion particularly around external deadlines for grants or manuscripts.
