The 3rd Shift Operations Leader is an entry-level frontline leadership role responsible for supporting safe efficient and quality-focused operations within a machining cell comprised of lean manufacturing lines and other manufacturing operations on 3rd shift. This role provides day-to-day leadership coordination and support for hourly production team members to ensure adherence to standard work achievement of production goals and escalation of issues impacting safety quality delivery and cost.The 3rd Shift Operations Leader helps drive a culture of accountability teamwork and continuous improvement consistent with cell policy and standards while serving as a key point of contact for shift execution. This position is expected to actively support production flow problem-solving employee engagement and communication across functional teams.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment by reinforcing safe work practices and adherence to cell and company policies and procedures.
- Lead shift start-up safety messaging incident reporting and corrective action follow-up.
- Teach and monitor adherence to quality/problem solving standards standardized work and process discipline across the lean lines.
- Plan and coordinate operator training and cross-training.
- Provide frontline leadership direction and support to hourly team members within the machining cell.
- Help build team capability and a positive shift culture through coaching employee engagement accountability respectful communication and recognition across the team.
- Serve as the primary operations point of contact for the cell during 3rd shift for production status abnormalities staffing concerns and escalation items clearly and promptly.
- Partner with maintenance quality materials engineering and other support functions to resolve operational issues.
- Support weekly payroll activities (including process education and issue resolution) staffing coordination and escalation of employee relations concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work 10:30pm-7:30 am Sunday-Thursday
- Bachelors degree in engineering or business from an accredited university or college and at least 1 year of manufacturing experience (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 5 years of experience in Manufacturing).
Desired Characteristics
- Previous experience in a lead coordinator team lead or informal leadership role in manufacturing.
- Experience in machining or lean production lines.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts such as 5S standard work visual management and continuous improvement.
- Experience working with production metrics daily management or shift reporting.
- Basic computer skills including ability to use production systems email and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required by business needs (minimum 1 weekend quarterly).
