Job Summary
A distinguished family-owned destination in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is seeking a professional and guest-centric Trails Guide & Backup Trails Guide Couple for the their Camp.
This exclusive adults-only retreat offers an immersive bush experience where deep nature connection and safety are paramount. We are looking for a couple that excels in the "human element" of guiding providing world-class storytelling while maintaining rigorous safety standards in a Big 5 environment.
Role 1: Trails Guide (Lead)
Responsible for leading immersive walking safaris and providing expert interpretive experiences.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Lead safe engaging walking safaris and game drives in a Big 5 area.
- Provide expert interpretation of animal tracks flora and ecosystems.
- Uphold the highest safety and rifle handling protocols.
- Mentor junior staff and assist with lodge operations as required.

Role 2: Backup Trails Guide
Supporting the Lead Guide during walking activities and ensuring seamless guest hosting.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Guide during walks ensuring total guest safety.
- Assist with guest hosting check-ins and daily lodge administration.
- Contribute to conservation and environmental monitoring efforts.
- Maintain vehicles and guiding equipment to luxury standards.
- Support the Lead Guide during walks ensuring total guest safety.
Requirements
Role 1: Trails Guide (Lead)
- Requirements:
- NGF 2/4
- Full Trails Guide qualification (VPDA).
- Valid Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH) and SAPS Competency.
- Current Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) and First Aid Level 2.
- Minimum 35 years experience in a luxury Big 5 lodge
Role 2: Backup Trails Guide
Supporting the Lead Guide during walking activities and ensuring seamless guest hosting.
- Requirements:
- NQF2
- Backup/Apprentice Trails Guide qualification.
- Valid ARH and Rifle Competency.
- Valid PrDP and First Aid certification.
- Strong guest interaction skills and a passion for hospitality.
