Job Summary

Healthcare Assistant (HCA)

A Healthcare Assistant (HCA) provides essential support to patients and residents across a range of healthcare settings working under the supervision of nurses and other healthcare professionals. The role involves assisting with personal care monitoring patients health and wellbeing maintaining a safe and hygienic environment and accurately documenting patient information.

Healthcare Assistants play a vital role in supporting individuals to maintain dignity independence and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care

  • Assist patients and residents with activities of daily living including bathing dressing grooming and toileting.

  • Support individuals in maintaining their personal hygiene and dignity at all times.

Clinical Support

  • Under the supervision of nursing staff monitor and record vital signs such as temperature pulse and blood pressure.

  • Assist with basic clinical tasks including specimen collection where required and within scope of practice.

Patient Support and Wellbeing

  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and residents.

  • Promote comfort independence and overall wellbeing.

Maintaining a Safe and Clean Environment

  • Ensure patient areas are clean organized and adequately stocked with necessary supplies.

  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures to maintain a safe healthcare environment.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Accurately record observations vital signs and any changes in a patients condition.

  • Report concerns promptly to nursing staff or other appropriate healthcare professionals.

Following Care Plans

  • Work in accordance with established care plans and follow instructions provided by nurses and healthcare professionals.

Team Collaboration

  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in Healthcare Support or Care Skills (QQI Level 5 or equivalent preferred).

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or care setting is desirable.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Compassionate reliable and patient-focused approach.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Required Skills:

Minimum Level 7 qualification in Social Care or a related degree. CORU registration is mandatory. Full clean manual drivers license required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Passion for supporting individuals in a community-based setting


Required Education:

Level 7 QQI qualification in Social Care Studies (or equivalent)At least 1 years experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities or vulnerable adultsStrong teamwork communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of HIQA regulations and person-centred planningFull clean drivers license (vehicle provided for resident transport)Flexibility for evenings nights weekends and 24-hour shifts
