Job Summary
The Role
The Youth Specialist will supervise and care for clients during assigned hours while providing an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. May work both daytime and overnight hours as scheduled. Ensures that all basic needs of participants are met and that the youth are provided a safe stable environment in which to work toward independence.
A day in the life of a Transitional Housing Youth Specialist can look like:
- Supervising participants during assigned hours which could include day evening and weekend shifts and an on-call rotation expectation.
- Relating to participants in a caring supportive manner while enforcing program rules and guidelines consistently firmly and fairly.
- Overseeing participant activities such as chores curfew personal hygiene departure and arrival
- Supervising participants and ensure they provide adequate parental supervision (if applicable).
- Assisting participants in meeting basic needs such as food clothing bedding personal care products transportation and safety.
- Providing crisis intervention to participants as needed. Alerting On-Call staff of major incidents or emergencies.
- Assisting in health education and care of prenatal / post-partum women and infants or children.
- Assisting with all participants needs of moving into an apartment and getting their place furnished. This includes moving them into the site.
- Assisting participants with transportation to appointments DHS job hunting and other program related activities as needed.
- Working with participants on life skills such as cooking laundry grocery shopping budgeting interpersonal relationships personal hygiene anger management self-esteem social skills problem solving job searching job maintenance transportation and leisure activities.
- Assisting the Case Worker with the conducting of group activities and house meetings to resolve conflicts as needed.

Qualifications
What Youll Need
- High School Diploma/equivalent is required.
- One year of full-time experience in a human service field is required. Experience should include working with high-risk youth.
- Knowledge of parenting child rearing techniques and age appropriate behavior for children is essential.
