The Principal Molding Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for providing expert-level engineering guidance and support strategic direction for molding processes and tooling and project leadership for high-volume molding operations producing medical device disposables. This role drives standardization process excellence and scalable manufacturing solutions with consideration of multiple manufacturing sites and external partners worldwide. The Principal Molding Engineer leads critical initiatives supports site-to-site technology transfers and serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for molding in a highly regulated medical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to independently lead projects end-to-end with full accountability for scope schedule and on-time delivery. This includes partnership with other groups such as R&D Supplier Quality Procurement etc. and relevant transfer to manufacturing related activities.
Significant understanding of various molding technologies supporting systems and equipment. Injection Molding Process and Tooling understanding is a must knowledge and experience with Injection Stretch Blow Molding (ISBM) Extrusion Blow Molding (EBM) Injection Blow Molding (IBM) Micro Molding and Profile Extrusion is a plus.
Lead complex problem-solving efforts related to yield scrap process variability and field or quality issues.
Develop characterize and optimize robust molding processes using scientific molding principles for high-volume production.
Own or support IQ/OQ/PQ activities process FMEAs control plans and design for manufacturability (DFM) efforts.
Lead process scale-up from pilot to full production including transfer between presses tools and manufacturing sites.
Establish standard process windows golden parameters and equipment standards to enable repeatability at scale.
Provide technical direction on mold design (high-cavitation hot runners valve gates) resin selection and press specifications.
Partner with R&D Program Management Quality and Supply Chain to support global NPIs and design transfer to manufacturing of new products or design changes.
Support supplier selection and qualification for molds materials and external molding partners as needed.
Travel domestically and internationally approximately2540% depending on project phase and business needs.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Plastics Engineering or related field.
10 years of experience in injection molding manufacturing with significant experience in regulated medical device environments. Experience with Injection Stretch Blow Molding (ISBM) Extrusion Blow Molding (EBM) Injection Blow Molding (IBM) Micro Molding and Profile Extrusion highly desirable.
Deep expertise in thermoplastics tooling design scientific molding and process validation.
Strong working knowledge of FDA and ISO regulatory requirements for medical devices.
Proven experience leading complex technical projects and influencing cross-functional teams across multi-site projects end-to-end.
Preferred Qualifications
Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
Experience with automation robotics and vision systems in molding operations.
Experience with 24/7 molding operations producing tens to hundreds of millions of parts annually.
Experience with SolidWorks DraftSight etc. or ability to learn
Ability to read and understand mechanical electrical and hydraulic diagrams associated with molding equipment
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Project and Minitab Smartsheet
Knowledge of RJG and its use Certifications desirable
Pay Transparency:
The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account without limitation the candidates location education job-knowledge skills and experience in prior relevant roles. Incentives may also be provided as part of Haemonetics employee compensation. For sales roles employees will be eligible for sales incentive (i.e. commission) under the applicable plan terms. For non-sales roles employees will be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus the target amount of which varies based on the applicable role to be governed by the applicable plan terms. Employees may also be eligible to participate in the Companys long-term incentive plan with eligibility and target amount dependent on the role.

The base salary range for this role is:
