Job Summary

A growing pan-African venture capital platform that deploys capital into high-growth African businesses is seeking a strategic and technical CFO.

The platform manages multiple fund vehicles including a pioneering evergreen investment company.

The CFO is responsible for the full financial governance regulatory compliance and fund operational aspects of this expanding platform. This is a comprehensive role that demands both technical depth and a "builder" mindset. The CFO will operate fund infrastructure manage cross-border capital flows and oversee LP relationships while driving AI-enabled automation of finance operations. The role also carries the responsibilities of Head of Compliance with accountability for regulatory oversight under both South African (FSCA) and Mauritian (FSC) jurisdictions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management

Manage full financial operations across all legal entities including monthly management accounts and IFRS-compliant Annual Financial Statements.
Direct budgeting forecasting and multi-currency cash flow management (ZAR USD EUR).
Oversee statutory tax filings (Income Tax VAT EMP) and payroll processing.
Manage banking relationships treasury controls and the finance tech stack (Xero Dext SimplePay).

Fund Management

Oversee international fund administrators and manage diverse investment structures (South African en commandite partnerships Mauritius Variable Capital Companies and Co-investment SPVs).
Administer investor capital mechanics including capital call notices distribution waterfall calculations (preferred return carried interest) and IRR computations.
Lead the setup of new funds across jurisdictions including legal entity formation and constitutional document review.
Manage SARB exchange control compliance for foreign capital flows including loop structure resolution and BoP category recording.

Reporting and Compliance

Prepare institutional-grade quarterly and annual investor reports NAV and portfolio performance summaries.
Act as Head of Compliance and AML Officer: Maintain FSCA Category II / IIA license conditions and Mauritius FSC regulatory obligations.
Implement Compliance Monitoring Programmes (CMP) and Risk Management Plans (CRMP).
Oversee FICA and AML/CFT policies across South Africa and Mauritius.

Portfolio Management & Strategy

Monitor portfolio company performance and build strategic relationships with their finance leads.
Oversee portfolio valuations using IFRS 13 and VC-specific valuation frameworks.
Act as a strategic partner to Managing Partners on fundraising strategy and long-term financial planning.
Support deal structuring from a financial and tax perspective.

Requirements

Qualifications

Chartered Accountant CA(SA) Essential.
Articles completed at a reputable firm with exposure to financial services or asset management.

Experience

8 years in fund finance venture capital private equity or asset management.
Demonstrated experience managing multi-vehicle multi-jurisdictional fund structures (SA Mauritius Europe).
Proven track record in LP reporting waterfall mechanics and SARB exchange control applications.
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted workflow design and finance automation (highly advantageous).

Fund Accounting (IFRS): Mastery of IFRS 13 fair value methodologies and VC-specific reporting. Regulatory Compliance (FSCA/FSC): Deep knowledge of South African and Mauritian regulatory frameworks. SARB Exchange Control: Expertise in cross-border capital flow loop structures and BoP reporting. Waterfall Mechanics: Proficiency in calculating complex distribution waterfalls carried interest and IRR. Multi-Jurisdictional Structuring: Experience managing SA En Commandite and Mauritius VCC structures. Investor Relations Operations: Managing the end-to-end lifecycle of LP communications and capital calls. Tax Oversight (International): Handling Income Tax VAT and international tax considerations for SPVs. Venture Capital Portfolio Valuation: Applying specialized frameworks to value high-growth startups. FinTech Stack Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Xero Dext and automated payroll systems. Finance Automation (AI/LLM): Ability to leverage AI and LLM APIs to drive operational efficiency.
