The Financial Specialist will be responsible for accurate and timely billing of all department services. This position will focus on payor follow up claim management remittance payment posting and credit management with the primary goal of recognizing potential high risk accounts and resolving issues in order to maximize Countys revenues. The Financial and Business Management division is committed to centering equity in policy and practice and in service to the Health Departments value of racial equity and its mission to reduce health disparities. As the Finance Specialist 1 you will:

  • Monitor accounts receivables manage work queues for claim edits rejections and denials

  • Check claim status and resubmit claims of overdue accounts filing corrected claims or appeals

  • Maintain updated knowledge of payer specific rules and regulations by continuing education through websites classes and payor specific calls

  • Audit payments in practice management system (Epic) to ensure they match deposits in cash management financial records and payor electronic remits

  • Research and evaluate credit work queues in practice management system (Epic) to identify and resolve issues related to overpayment or posting adjustment errors

  • Participate in special non-routine billing projects to correct significant system or payors related issues

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

  • Associates degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.

  • Two years of progressively responsible technical accounting support experience

  • Must pass a reference check.

  • This position requires a working knowledge of Medicare Medicaid Commercial and Specialty payors and reimbursement processes; working knowledge of medical terminology or familiarity with Current Procedural Terminology/(CPT) dental procedure codes (CDT) and International Classification of Diagnosis (ICD10) codes; and working knowledge of Epic Resolute.

However actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidates relevant experience and education. Type of Position: This hourly position is eligible for overtime.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Routine Telework: This position is designated as routine telework meaning you will be working remotely (from home); a hybrid schedule also is available. As with all routine telework positions employees may be required to come into the office on occasion. The designation of Routine Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The onsite work location for this position is the Gladys McCoy Building located at 619 NW 6th Ave. Portland OR 97209.

Serving the Public Even During Disasters:

Everyday Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather natural disaster or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses while typically there begins with a call for volunteers county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities.
