Description of Work

The position provides supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants Technicians and students. The position is responsible for the development implementation and coordination of the Occupational Therapy Student Clinical Fieldwork Program. The position carries a full caseload including assessment consultation and planning and treatment of individuals Occupational Therapy needs and services.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $66696 - $110049

Responsibilities Include:

  • Direct Occupational Therapy Services are provided in the form of assessment planning consultation and direct treatment. This includes annual planning conferences for individual clients as well as periodic review and planning meetings. Ongoing direct OT treatments are monitored modified and updated as needed.

  • The therapist is a role model in demonstrating and delegating effective techniques to support personnel and instruction and education are provided to direct care staff within the individuals group home.

  • Occupational Therapist is required to attend various meetings serve on various committees and serve as a resource on topics including adaptive and assistive devices and equipment environmental modifications eating and swallowing disorders sensory processing issues etc. Other duties performed as assigned and as determined by needs of individuals served.

  • An essential part of this function is the clinical supervision of treatments provided by OT staff as required with instruction modeling guiding and reviewing to ensure that appropriate and effective OT treatments are provided.

  • The therapist provides on-going staff education in areas such as positioning body mechanics lifting and transferring eating and swallowing and sensory processing issues.

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Knowledge of current practice and frames of reference in occupational therapy and their application to the provision of services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Skill in clearly expressing ideas verbally and in writing analyzing and interpreting evaluation data assessment/treatment tools and modalities.

  • Ability to move about campus to provide services; ability to work with clients on lower surfaces; ability to safely move and transfer clients.

  • Ability to evaluate patient response and progress and to present evaluative reports in case staffing and multi-disciplined team meetings.

  • Ability to work effectively with patients patients families medical nursing and other staff members and to deal tactfully with the public and ability to perform light to moderate physical exertion.

Workday Schedule: Typical workweek is Monday-Friday.

Work Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm (flexibility is required to meet the needs of the residents and facility).

This position is Exempt and is EXEMPT from certain provisions of the State Human Resources Act (GS 126)
