Position Summary: The Veteran Services Student Ambassador supports JCCC by performing activities to assist students and prospective students to have a successful experience at JCCC. This position requires self-initiative persistence and the desire to serve others. Veteran Services Ambassadors serve as the front-line staff for the Veteran & Military Student Resource Center (VMSRC) as well as support all VMSRC programs and initiatives. Student Ambassadors are expected to lead uphold professionalism and a commitment to serving others.
Required Qualifications:
- Being a student at JCCC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Veteran or military-connect student.
- Past or current participation in the PAVE program.
Position detailsinclude but are not limited to:
- Engagement & Outreach:
- Serve as a Peer Advisor for Veterans Education (PAVE) peer advisor by completing outreach activities attending events and supporting new or transitioning students.
- Promote and support JCSVA events.
- Act as an approachable supportive contact for peers and assist in connecting them with appropriate campus resources.
- Assist with Building Emergency protocols for moving people in the COM building during fire and tornado drills.
- Be prepared to assist Building Emergency Leaders in case of emergency.
- Communication & Customer Service:
- Greet visitors to the VMSRC in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Check email Microsoft Teams and calendars upon arrival and during work shift.
- Respond promptly and accurately to inquiries via phone email or Microsoft Teams.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication and active listening skills when assisting students staff and guests.
- Maintain confidentiality in all interactions.
- Communicate with SCOs and other VMSRC staff when arriving and leaving the office.
- School Certifying Official (SCO) Support & Projects:
- Assist with preparation and organization of enrollment certification forms and documentation.
- Complete SCO-assigned projects accurately and on time.
- Help ensure certification packets are prepared in accordance with internal procedures and federal guidelines.
- Monitor and contribute to task assignments in the SCO project chat (Microsoft Teams) ensuring timely completion and communication.
- Assist with uploading certification packets to Imaging system.
- GI Bill & Military Tuition Assistance Support:
- Gain and apply working knowledge of the GI Bill Military Tuition Assistance (TA) FAFSA and JCCC scholarship to educate students and prospective students about these funding options.
- Actively seek opportunities to enhance knowledge of JCCC policies student support resources and military education benefits.
- Assist students in understanding their benefits eligibility and guide them in completing applications as needed.
- Escalate complex questions to supervisors when appropriate.
- Position Expectations & Personal Development:
- Complete all onboarding and training requirements by due date(s).
- Demonstrate leadership on campus and build strong relationships with fellow students staff and community partners.
- Engage respectfully and professionally with all members of the campus community.
- Attend weekly staff meetings to stay informed and contribute to team success.
- Participate in staff training sessions and leadership development programs.
- Complete daily office checklists and maintain a clean organized environment in shared spaces.
- Follow attendance call-out guidelines dress code and JCCC Code of Conduct expectations.
- Adhere to FERPA and confidentiality policies.
- Respect office spaces and personal belongings.
- Maintain an up-to-date LinkedIn profile to support professional development and networking.
