JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Project Coordinator performs various activities related to clinical research in the Department of Pediatrics Division of Neonatology as part of patient care services to help reduce infant mortality. This position refers to protocols and guidelines to safely and accurately complete research tasks and seeking guidance when indicated. Although not responsible for staff supervision of staff assigned to this coordinators project(s) this position may at times be responsible for training project responsibilities to assigned staff.
Responsibilities
Implements assigned protocols with assigned staff; devises and implements protocols and data gathering methods such that all patients randomized to trials meet eligibility criteria.
Performs or assists with the collection documentation processing and shipping of lab samples.
Trains clinical or research staff to specific research protocols as indicated or assigned.
Collects and retrieves patient health information for various approved research projects as requested by faculty fellows residents and students.
Abstracts data from the record and enters into the database.
Creates and maintains study logs for effective trial management.
Interacts with physicians and staff seeing patients in the clinic or hospital to ensure project requirements for patient visits are achieved.
Oversees project supplies or medication storage use and reordering
Provides feedback on issues that have been discussed/questions that were left without resolution; maintains communication as appropriate regarding project issues until resolved.
Maintains regulatory documents and study communications in appropriate projects critical documents binder.
Completes training as required by the University and assigned by hospitals for credentialling purposes and maintenance of privilege; plans and conducts research protocol training for study staff and ancillary hospital staff.
Submits monthly recruitment numbers/results to Principal Investigator as requested or assigned.
Learn and follow relevant research and related guidelines such as FDA GCP OSHA HIPAA etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:Bachelors Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years related experience.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate with patients co-workers and ancillary staff in a professional manner.
Ability to understand IRB requirements to conduct research.
Ability to abstract data from the record and enter the database.
Ability to use Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology anatomy and physiology.
Ability to read comprehend follow and explain a protocol.
Basic knowledge of JCAHO and HIPAA requirements.
Computer skills and the ability to operate office equipment such as copiers and fax machines.
Ability and readiness to learn new computer systems such as Nexgen Cerner EPIC.
Ability to be responsible with time management and attendance.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
