The Opportunity
The Marine Compliance Auditor is responsible for performing technical compliance audits across the companys marine fleet and associated operations to verify conformance with Health Safety Quality and Environmental (HSEQ) management systems regulatory frameworks and client requirements.
This role requires a technically competent marine professional with practical vessel knowledge who can assess real-world compliance. The auditor must be capable of evaluating vessel systems operational practices maintenance regimes and Safety Management System (SMS) implementation in relation to regulatory and management system requirements.
The position supports continuous improvement by identifying non-conformities developing corrective action plans and ensuring timely and effective close-out.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations HSE Manager responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Technical Compliance Auditing
Conduct technical audits of vessels and marine operations against:
Company HSEQ management systems
Flag state and port state requirements
Applicable marine regulations and codes
Client and project-specific standards
Evaluate practical compliance of:
Vessel safety systems
Machinery and engineering spaces
Planned maintenance systems
Pollution prevention and environmental controls
Operational controls and risk management processes
Corrective Action & Closeout Management
Generate detailed audit findings with clear technical and regulatory justification
Develop and maintain audit action logs
Track corrective and preventive actions to verified completion
Conduct follow-up reviews to confirm effectiveness of corrective actions
Escalate critical safety or environmental non-conformities as required
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare structured audit reports supported by objective evidence
Maintain audit records and compliance documentation
Provide trend analysis and recurring non-conformance reporting
Support management reviews with data-driven insights
Qualifications:
Marine technical background
Practical vessel experience (minimum 5 years preferred)
Demonstrated understanding of vessel systems machinery and maintenance regimes
Experience with Safety Management Systems and marine documentation control
Working knowledge of Canadian and international marine regulatory frameworks
Experience conducting technical inspections or audits
Strong technical writing and reporting skills
ISO auditing experience including:
ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety)
Internal or Lead Auditor certification
Familiarity with ISM Code and marine SMS frameworks
Ability to travel and attend vessels/sites as required
