Policy and Compliance Specialist

Location: Edmonton Alberta

Type: Full-time (on site)

Reports to: Director of HR Services

As a Policy and Compliance Specialist youll have the opportunity to ensure our Human Resources and Professional Development policies and compliance practices are up to standard and aligned with the applicable legislation and regulations across North America and Australia through research review and evaluation. Reporting to the Director of HR Services this role requires an individual to lead critical analysis of relevant information to inform strategic advice and options on policies and practices that support the organizations strategic direction.

Heres how a Policy and Compliance Specialist contributes to our team:

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and provides recommendations on various employee relations and compliance issues and opportunities relevant to the organization to support legislative and internal policy compliance.
  • Creates and maintains policy content based on research industry best practices and stakeholder feedback.
  • Assists with the implementation of compliance procedures and evaluates the effectiveness and impact of existing and new policies.
  • Delivers clear and concise documents such as reports briefs memos and presentations.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure alignment and coordination of policy objectives and actions.

  • Analyzes implications of options in terms of opportunities risks costs and benefits of policy options including implementation and delivery mechanisms.

  • Provides support to various tasks as needed within the HR Services department.

Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree or higher in public policy communications social sciences humanities or a related field.

  • 5 years of progressively more complex experience in a related field preferably in a private organization.

  • Experience in HR is an asset.

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups and negotiating the complexity of the different interests perspectives and objectives.

  • Excellent analytical critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven experience reading and interpreting legislation regulations and state/provincial laws.

  • Ability to anticipate assess and readily adapt to changing priorities maintain resiliency and effectively work in a changing environment.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and formats.

  • Knowledge of and interest in the policy issues and priorities of the construction industry.
