Description of Work
The Engineer II serves on the On-Site Water Protection Team to support the review evaluation and oversight of subsurface wastewater systems across North Carolina. This role provides technical assistance and training to local health departments applying engineering principles data analysis and regulatory knowledge to assist with system design reviews inspections compliance evaluations and capacity building statewide.Work is performed independently and requires skilled professional engineering judgment. The position manages moderately complex projects and provides consultation on issues and requests from clients and higher-level professionals ensuring alignment with standards codes and program needs.

Pay Grade Range: $63927.00-$111871.00
Recruitment Range: $63927 to $81111

Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying statutes rules and regulations governing permitting construction inspection operation and maintenance of onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal systems.
Proven experience assessing soils geology and hydrogeology related to installation of on-site wastewater systems.
Documented experience with wastewater treatment processes and decentralized technologies.
Experience collaborating with public health and environmental agencies to align responsibilities and compliance activities.
Demonstrated experience applying engineering concepts and technical practices and staying current on emerging developments and trends.

Physical Requirement:
Ability to walk and stand on uneven or rough terrain for extended periods during field inspections.
Ability to bend stoop kneel crouch or climb as necessary to access inspection sites.
Ability to lift carry and handle materials or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions including heat cold rain and wind.
Ability to safely navigate around construction sites equipment and other potential hazards.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience;
